All well and good but there are those who would've called and said don't bother with pictures and weight, I'll buy one. All of a sudden, they're disappearing quicker than admin like that can happen. It's not just us lunatics buying these things, is it.
When I called earlier in the morning they were only too happy to provide photos / weight etc. At a certain point the guy I was speaking to mentioned that they were flying off the shelves faster than they could take photos and management had told them to just get on and sell them. I agree, not the best policy when we're talking about relatively expensive guitars but in GuitarGuitar's defense I would say that every member of staff I spoke to there was really keen to make sure I got the guitar I wanted.

Peach do a great job with individual pics, weights etc (as do Coda) but I think GG are getting some harsh flack here. As soon as they are listed, they are flying out - they a) don't need to do anything extra to shift them and b) they don't have time to do this before they are gone.

Give them a buzz about one of their £5499 ones gathering dust. I rather suspect you might get a different approach.

(-3hrs 15 mins to DPD arrival, and counting)
So maybe GG should photograph and take pics/weigh before listing, it's not rocket science is it? It also wouldn't take long to do, for just one pic of the top and weighing them.

It implies a level of "I can't be arsed as they will sell anyway" which makes you wonder what else they are skimping on. For instance the damaged guitar I think Roberty received above, no way Peach would've shipped that without contacting the customer first. All those small things make a big difference when you're spending a small fortune if I'm honest, at least for me anyway.

Anyway happy new guitar day, hope it's a Peach

My head said brake, but my heart cried never.

As someone who doesn't have time to sift through 36 pages, could anyone kindly give me a sentence or two run-down on these? Why are they so cheap? Are they the same as the usual R8s that Gibson sells for 3-4k? What's goin on ere?

My Dirty Lemon has arrived. I'm over the moon with it. Very nicely set up by Peach as well, intonation spot on. Mine weighs 8.1 and feels great. The neck is a little chunkier than I was expecting, but absolutely fine.

The outer box label says "LPR8 HR VOS" as does the guarantee slip and a hang tag. It's only a 'Standard' on the COA!

End of line clearout sale.  They're True Historic '58 reissues with '59 necks.  Bargains at £2499, last time R8s were this price new was 2008 and the specs have improved a lot since then.

More or less Historic spec, 2017 Standard '58s

Gibson Europe had 300 in stock that Gibson USA them permission to liquidate

Yeah, it's fairly well-documented that all the COAs say Standard for the R* stuff in 2017. Just the way of things...

    Pre Sold Limited

It was from a limited run in 2017 (so they have 59 neck profiles if you weren't aware). All it means is a really small batch of these Les Paul's were made with these exact specs.

I suspect that the taxman definitely is at least :D

According to the internet:  "The "PSL" part of this Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul stands for "Pre-Sold Limited" - meaning this guitar was a part of a small batch of LPs that had these exact specs."

    I'm looking at the 330s

I'm trying (and failing) to convince the other half that it isn't just a guitar, it's a nice furniture piece that will impress all of our friends.  It would also match the current living room decor.

Some please post more suggestions I could use.

I’m with you on the 330, but the sale of these is actually putting me off as I’m waiting to see if other Gibson prices drop. If they drop the Memphis prices further, I’d be very interested.

How many of us managed to bag an R8/R9 as a result of this thread?

It may be simpler to compile a list of Fretboarders that didn't buy one.

Couple more 59s have showed up at GG at £3.5k.

Could be tempted....... what do these go for ordinarily?

    I think they were £5499.

If it's the figuring you like and you're a gambling man I'd hold out to see what Peach and Coda get next... because some of the R8s have remarkably figured tops. That is literally the only difference this year between these guitars - the necks are identical.

I did try to collate numbers on the thread that I started just to collate numbers.  But that soon went astray ...

I reckon it’ll be 20-25 via Peach and up to 10 elsewhere.

A number of people PM’d me (as asked) and they’d not disclosed themselves on the thread.
    ;)

Looked at another way, members of this forum spent close to £100k on R8s last week.

Not everyone who found £2499 for an impulse buy guitar managed to find £20 for our annual fund raiser to keep the forum going though.

    Which makes you think ...
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

    Hmm. I thought a 59 was 1 better than a 58,....

It's lucky dip with GG then (in terms of tops/weights). Perhaps hang on and see what else appears in the next week or two.
