I messaged him and said that if he could send me a copy of his purchase receipt at £4k, I would buy it straight away. Unfortunately, he has 'just moved house and doesn't know where anything is'.
    Surprising that.

Maybe his priority is finding his belt?

Off topic kinda - would you buy your ideal guitar in perfect condition for cheap if you knew it was stolen or hot?

My question is how the man keeps his trousers on, he says he wears no belts?

Maybe he just likes the feel of the wood against his junk

No, I wouldn't buy anything that was known to be stolen. By definition, something stolen means somebody elsewhere had something nicked and I don't wish to benefit from someone else's misfortune.

Ah, but what if it was ... stolen, paid out by insurer, recovered, becomes insurers' property and then advertised by them for sale... !!!????

    Then it's no longer stolen.

Phew. My conscience is clear now on that old Les Paul I bought direct from insurer as Eric Clapton had been paid out...

(Some / all of that isn't actually true)

There were a few cases of people buying multiple CS Les Pauls on the blow out deal, I reckon they are genuine and he wants to get some funds together to buy a decent guitar ;)

Needs a Floyd ;) I did wonder how long it’d take the Flippers to  move them on

  • Why lie in the advert, it’s obviously bollocks so surely it would be better to not mention the value paid. That’s pretty much the going rate for an R8 isn’t it.

That's the thing. £2.5k for a new R8 is the sort of price that creates a buying frenzy. £2.5k for a second hand one is pretty much the going rate, maybe even a couple of hundred more than the going rate. I suspect he's not going to sell those too quickly at that price.

  • As someone mentioned earlier, he probably thought this was going to be a bit of an investment for him. It hasn’t backfired as such but he would have made more if he’d stuck it in the bank...

Because he knows that anyone who actually bought into that deal is unlikely to be a potential customer, so he’s going after people who are none the wiser. There are likely more of them than there are of us...

Very good point, I just think that because he’s asking a fair-ish price anyway what’s the point in lying. I don’t necessarily think that would make someone who’s less aware of the original deals more likely to buy it as they would know the going rate of them now for example.

They wouldn’t know he is lying. Because if you check prices now (since that’s what you do for a quick google), you will think he is right about the £4K number.

Indeed, it’s really no different to Guitarguitar’s “was - now” pricing they put on just about everything they sell - unless it’s in the “sale” section the “was” should actually say “never.” It’s a tactic...

Well what was the situation with the Peach guitars? In a nutshell? They got a shipment in for cheap and were selling them off? Were they actually decent?

    Abridged version:

Peach, Guitar Guitar and GAK got a load of new R8's and R9's and sold them at used prices.

    We bought them all

    It was great

Now people have got bored with their shiny toys, and are selling them, and we are still talking about them.
