I messaged him and said that if he could send me a copy of his purchase receipt at £4k, I would buy it straight away. Unfortunately, he has 'just moved house and doesn't know where anything is'.

No, I wouldn't buy anything that was known to be stolen. By definition, something stolen means somebody elsewhere had something nicked and I don't wish to benefit from someone else's misfortune.

There were a few cases of people buying multiple CS Les Pauls on the blow out deal, I reckon they are genuine and he wants to get some funds together to buy a decent guitar

Why lie in the advert, it’s obviously bollocks so surely it would be better to not mention the value paid. That’s pretty much the going rate for an R8 isn’t it.

That's the thing. £2.5k for a new R8 is the sort of price that creates a buying frenzy. £2.5k for a second hand one is pretty much the going rate, maybe even a couple of hundred more than the going rate. I suspect he's not going to sell those too quickly at that price.

As someone mentioned earlier, he probably thought this was going to be a bit of an investment for him. It hasn’t backfired as such but he would have made more if he’d stuck it in the bank...

Very good point, I just think that because he’s asking a fair-ish price anyway what’s the point in lying. I don’t necessarily think that would make someone who’s less aware of the original deals more likely to buy it as they would know the going rate of them now for example.

They wouldn’t know he is lying. Because if you check prices now (since that’s what you do for a quick google), you will think he is right about the £4K number.

Indeed, it’s really no different to Guitarguitar’s “was - now” pricing they put on just about everything they sell - unless it’s in the “sale” section the “was” should actually say “never.” It’s a tactic...
