2 of them just killed a man in Staffordshire and that was the last straw
I didn't think the breed of dog in that attack had been determined
    Quote:

"Staffordshire Police say the two dogs involved in a fatal attack in Stonnall are believed to be XL bully dogs.

One of the dogs has died after being restrained and the other has died after an injection was given by a vet, police confirm.

"Further tests are being carried out today to determine their breed," they say in a statement."

Sounds like they were Bully XLs but because the breed is not entirely defined they are being circumspect until they are confirmed.

dogs or humans.........it's quite remarkable how many things have a tendency to die whilst ' being restrained by Police '
    it's a bit Steve Biko

FFS - that's medieval. Poor guy.

I don't know if the two dogs belonged to the same owner, but if so it seems for some reason to be even more criminal than it would be otherwise.

  • Interesting take from a dog behaviorist, who doesn't believe in breed specific legislation and that dog agression is not necessarily inherent to a particular breed:-

I dunno, seems like having lots of mad dogs on the street for him to treat is good for business, whereas banning them is not.

And if you'd actually read the article you'd have seen that he advocates banning this particular breed.

Apparently he was 52 and died protecting his mother after they mauled him for 20 minutes having jumped out of a window at their home .A truly terrible death .
Nobody should have to risk that fate whatever the law says about dogs .

most people can't even watch a film at the cinema without looking at their phone, drive like an adult, yet they think they can be responsible for an unpredictable ball of teeth and muscle much faster and stronger than themselves? give me a break. people can't control themselves, let alone a vanity fightdog.

That's the point, even he thinks the XL Bully is too much and as a breed has crossed the line.

This was really to point out to poeple that believe this is just the latest breed, in a long line of sensationalist media led knee jerk reactions, it really isn't.

I don't for one moment think it's a knee jerk ........I think something needs to be done quickly ....why call it a knee-jerk ?
The fact that there has been a sudden spate of death is pretty serious.
    The old newspaper editor line " Dog bites man isn't news ...........man bites dog is " ......is true ;
"Dog bites man ",sure happens all the time ..........Dog mauls man/child etc to death and is an unstoppable monstrosity certainly is news .
If you've seen these things ( I have now seen 3 ) they are fearsome .
    Get rid.

I'd go further.  I'd say that existing BXLs shouldn't be put on an exemption list - they should all be put down (preferably along with their owners).  How many more people do you want to die?

Do you think for one second banning this “ breed” is going to fix the problem ?
The problem will return with a different breed and until we fix the actual problem ,Dogs as weapons, there is very little recourse on the owner. Start holding owners responsible and you soon see a change. The owner/s of these dogs should be on a murder charge, for me it’s that simple.

And yes I have seen “these things” I have met a few and everyone I have met have been well trained and well socialised.

They are units. They are big dogs but that does not make them “devil dogs”
but without proper handling and decent breeding these things are going to keep happening.

Stop back yard breeders breeding these things bigger and bigger, stop back yard breeders selling these things to anyone and everyone ( roadman init ) make them registered , stop these scrotes using dogs as weapons. Deal with the fucking problem not just ban a breed of dog because roadman will just move onto the next breed until it’s banned

  • The most enlightening thing for me has been reading up on the incidents list and looking at the repercussions to owners. It’s very little for a lot of damage.

And therein lies the problem. As usual the government will go for a headline grabbing “solution” that won’t address the real problem.

Maybe there should be a program where XL bullies are put up for adoption, but then anyone who comes in looking to adopt gets arrested.

Me neither.  There has always been irresponsible owners, using them as fighting dogs and weapons.

But the jump with this breed has been statistically very significant.

Doesn’t mean you don’t tackle the owners as well.

  • .

Stop back yard breeders breeding these things bigger and bigger,
That’s literally what has been happening with the
Bully XL.   (Clue is in the title, you can also get an XXL apparently?

Did you read the article I posted btw?

Agree on punishing the owners severely but that won’t put others off and is very much after the horse has bolted.

It is mainly on the owners in all cases, but as the link I posted said from the dog behaviourist said this breed is a bit different and the only breed he will not work with because if its unpredictability.

It turns out a substantial amount of the UK population of XL Bullies are bred from a stud called Killer Kimbo.

Guess why he got his name?

Cycling around the perimeter track in Richmond Park, I encountered an owner (on his phone)
with a bully XL off lead.  First time I’d ever seen one, and it’s nothing like a pit bull or Staff.

    it was huge.

I was immediately aware of its speed  (fortunately after a squirrel) and massive bulk and jaws.
I’m  a dog lover, but the physicality of this dog  just made me aware that it could ruin, or even kill me.

Simply put,   It was a massively intimidating beast.

within 30 seconds, I was beyond range and it had showed no interest in me.

I’m delighted to hear they’re banned.

I spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to defend against a 'triggered' dangerous dog. I mean for ordinary ppl not a super fit martial artist.

    Fat chance!

There are ways but you will most likely end up prosecuted :-(

Now, consider walking in the park with your grandson of granddaughter FFS this is wrong!

My first thought would be ramming a key into its eyeball but how realistic that would be in the heat of the moment I don’t know. Hope I never find out.

You would never ,never fuck with the guy........somebody he knows has one of these things .
He said ....."That fucking thing would kill me in minutes " .....and he's very big
How can the public......children,older people....anybody be exposed to that risk ?

Had a friend who had one of these and wanted another one. I absolutely refused to go near it. For all that he could get it under control for the most part, it was clearly only a matter of wrong place, wrong time, with him either not around or not able to control in in the moment. I'm 6'1, about 18 stone and have lifted weights since I left school. I wanted nothing to do with that animal.

No exemption list. Put them down and give serious prison time to anyone who doesn't hand them over.
