Any truth in the rumours that Jofra's been on the phone to the West Indies Cricket Board begging forgiveness?

Sometimes you don't know what to say that doesn't contain a swear word

As part of the team management etc then what do you say - Far easier to correct and fine tune one or two issues - When it is all as bad as this then where do you start

You start by looking at the women's game. So much of the financial boost a few years back went into the top level with the goal of winning the World Cup. This short-term goal was achieved but it was at the price of the domestic structure going nowhere. Cricket Australia went long-term and now they're light years ahead of everyone having spent their financial boost wisely by strengthening top and bottom and making their domestic structure better.

the men's game has had the financial boost going on for years and focused on the short term goal of winning the World Cup. This was achieved by fucking over county cricket, primarily the one-day competition and the County Championship, and this will be compounded next season with the introduction of the Hundred, a competition which so far seems to be focused on rewarding Australians with fat coaching contracts.

I hope to shit that the Test-loving fraternity do everything possible to boycott the team if we get stuffed this series. Don't attend internationals, stay away from the Hundred. Nothing would send a greater message to the ECB than Pakistan and Windies series next year where there are vast expanses of empty seating.

Well, granted I've only been watching since the mid 90s really, but despite the doldrums we were in at the latter part of the 90s after losing at home to NZ and then the numerous whitewashes against the Aussies, we always had world class batsmen like Stewart, Hussain, Thorpe, Cook, Pietersen etc.

Nobody in the current Top Six is at the same standard.

And doesn't this story sum English Test cricket up over the last few years.

Come down to Taunton, Haseeb. We'll get you firing.

Beefy just now: 4th time since the beginning of last year that we've been bowled out for under 100. So let's introduce another tip and run competition to ensure that nobody knows how to leave the ball.

England look beyond dejected and faithless in the field, they know that Aus just have to canter another 100+ runs and it's all over save 2 dead rubber matches.

I was just thinking about you

Can't see England winning this match now - Assume the Aussies will - So 2 nil up and as such they retain the Ashes

Missed Butlers wicket - Looking at the score card, all wickets were catches from behind - Doesn't that tell part of a story

Lyons figures not very good - None for 2

At this rate you will be going but as a top order batsman, not a spectator.

Buttler was a catch at short extra cover.  More poor batting.

So the Aussies have managed to match our first innings for the loss of three wickets.

    Three wickets.

George Dobell's article out today is right on the money.

    https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/27446421/jason-roy-woes-test-opener-epitomise-broken-system

"It was the fourth time in the Trevor Bayliss era that they have been bowled out for under 100; no other Test side has suffered such an indignity so often. It keeps happening. And if things keep happening, they can't be dismissed as an aberration."

    and

    "
Ed Smith, the head selector who has pushed for Roy to open, Pope to bat at No. 4 and Denly to win an extended chance in the side, does not emerge from this situation especially well. He has previously defended his selection policy by stating "there has to be a compelling reason not to have one of your top players in the team". But such a naïve policy ignores the balance required to build a side; it ignores the specialism required at this level; it involved far too much wishful thinking. It just isn't working."

Makes Rob Smyth's column from last November look awfully smug. Which it was then and looks horrific now.

    https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/nov/07/ed-smith-england-cricket-selections-alex-ferguson-sport

Ed Smith isn't Ferguson. He's Claudio Ranieri, one big win under his belt and a reputation for tinkering until he can tinker no more.

Bowled out for 67. England batsmen are stressing out too much over the possibility of a no-deal Brexit. Or the Amazon - yes  that must be it, they're too upset about the destructive wildfires to concentrate on the Australian deliveries. Or no, wait, it could be Trump's bullying attitude to Denmark over the Greenland thing - that sort of thing gets to a batsman, you know.

It's wounded animal time now, Aus will bat through this evening and all day tomorrow and still have 2 days to bowl England out again.

This is the slow pain that can be inflicted in a test match. I don't think I can watch.

I'm on the Jack Daniels, 1 litre bottle. Going on Peach Guitars and Guitars4You websites to look at expensive guitars

Don't do it! You'll end up buying something and hating it because it's the "crap cricket" guitar.

If you are the captain and number 3, and the selectors keep selecting Roy to open, that's probably the natural reaction.
