    What is Roy doing?

At the moment, he's not a test opener in English conditions.  Might be ok in India where the ball doesn't move much.
Kumar would still move it and I wouldn't fancy him against Bumrah early doors.

It's unbelievable. What does he swish at everything? Put your front leg in line with off stump, get your head over your bat and block, defend and leave the ones outside off until the new ball goes off.

He's a liability now, and what's with Root he's got more ducks than Hyde Park Serpentine lake.

Like most England captains, his batting seems to be suffering.

Maybe we should make Roy captain.  At least it couldn't make his batting worse.

How many nightwatchmen do we have in our batting lineup until we get to the specialists?

Because that is the form of cricket he has played, one where you might have one or two slips early doors and against a white ball that doesn't do as much as this one. It's like taking a winger and asking him to play at tighthead prop.

England's top order is poor .. Archer's not a bad batsman either.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

Not possible.  Australia didn't make enough for force England to follow on.  Whatever England make, the Aussies will bat again.

What was Stokes thinking? he was at full stretch trying to reach it, it was wider than Pavarotti's waistcoat

I feel so embarrassed to be English right now. I thought that they days of cricket humiliation were behind us.

I was keeping a sneaky window on my work computer to keep check on the cricket whilst the ashes is on. Closed it. I don't need that kind of negativity in my life right now.

    What a shower of shit.

More inept than I thought possible. In fact, no evidence of any sort of eptness, a veritable ept desert.

Superb bowling and catching by the Aussies.

    But...

    Fucking hell.

Bit of light relief.  Wilson can't even count the number of balls in the over correctly.

Why on earth is he an international umpire?

It's on occasions like this that being a Scottish cricket fan is a massive relief. So theoretically I can at least just shrug and give a wry laugh... sort of... but if I was an English cricket fan, I'd be utterly, utterly inconsolable. My deepest sympathies to you all.

Sometimes you don't know what to say that doesn't contain a swear word

As part of the team management etc then what do you say - Far easier to correct and fine tune one or two issues - When it is all as bad as this then where do you start

Easy to blame tired minds after the World Cup - But this is very poor - Yet not the first time such collapses have happened to England in recent times - And not one decent innings so far in this Ashes

Credit to Aussies for such  a fine bowling spell, especially after such a poor day for them yesterday - They could easily have been expecting and looking at England getting 300 plus on the 1st innings - They have  a plan, dug in and made it work

Archer + Broad were hoping for a day of - They might get it Sunday and/or Monday now

    Lunch. 54-6.

I'll be kind and say that it was a team decision not to let Roy feel bad about his batting.

One thing: no way will I be having a salad for lunch. I need some comfort food.

I do find it comforting that a dreadful England performance always brings people together in (dis)harmony.

Worst England Top Six I've ever seen.
