However, he is doing the job he is brought in to do, with no money to spend like Chelsea, given the circumstances, he is doing a good job.
One thing is obvious to me is that ETH is really good at using his players for their skill sets, maximising his tactics that way, either fitting his tactics to the players that he has or using the best players for those tactics. Whether using Luke Shaw in Center Back or putting Marcus up front in the centre at some games. He seems to be a lot more tactically astute than more recent United Managers. So the argument can be made that Weghorst is maximising his way of playing.
They might bring in a true No.9 in the summer, however, that player will certainly changes the way the team plays somewhat and his tactics will tweaked to suit. My 2 cents.
edit - If Weghorst helps the team to win even 1 trophy this season, I'd love to keep him for 1 more season just for that. Certainly getting more from him than Phil Jones.
I can't help about the shape I'm in, I can't sing I ain't pretty and my legs are thin
But don't ask me what I think of you, I might not give the answer that you want me to
And hopefully Saka signs that new contract. He's our future.
He is now older.
Pretty much the same as that @thecolourbox , a bit mixed but you always felt there was a good player in there somewhere. Sadly others shone brighter and he never really got going. Hope he does well for you, and your fortunes start to change. Sounds like you have a promising manager so next season might be more enjoyable!
told you haha. Took Shelvey off and it all went to shit. Think Cooper got a bit greedy thinking he could sneak a win with another striker on the field…then flattered you with a ridiculous scoreline .
@boromedic a bad day at the office for your team I think, didn't look very threatening at all really. I think we must have worked out to put two midfielders in the gap between your strikers and midfield which seemed to cut them off a bit. You had a lot of possession but ultimately it seemed like you were playing left to right most of the time and not forwards. Also, like us, you definitely need a new keeper - he looked very shaky.
Hope your defender who went off is alright - I sit by the goal there and he looked in a big bloody mess and then I think he basically fainted as he just lay flat out. Medics seemed to take a flipping age to get to him as well, we were all trying to tell them to hurry the hell up as he looked in a bad way. I didn't quite see what happened but I suspect it must just have been an accidental elbow in the face or something. Speedy recovery hopefully, we have him a good ovation and applause as they carried him off
Sorry about that.
McNair is fine apparently but that sounds bad!! Here's hoping it's our last defeat of the season!
My head said brake, but my heart cried never.
Glad McNair is fine, never nice to see. They didn't show that bit on the Sky Sports highlights so couldn't actually check what happened (or indeed see Dike suddenly becoming Messi in the box, he's not normally got that in him). Good luck to you guys, your transformation as been similar to ours in some ways as we were both in Relegation places until we got managers who know how to coach. I suspect despite yesterday's performance, your are normally the more interesting team to watch though and you've certainly kept your firm going longer than we did.
United were dogged and although not at our best, had the game management and winning experience with Verane and Casemiro.
Great to see Skippy get some games, and the goal was a beauty.
And great to see Chelsea's latest band of mercenaries playing like strangers. I fear for Potter though, looks like another potentially good manager is about to crash and burn.
I thought that this was interesting about Ten Hag (off the BBC website):
.... the embarrassing 4-0 thrashing at Brentford in United's second league game looks increasingly like a pivotal moment.
Ten Hag cancelled his players' day off after that loss, in which United shipped four first-half goals, to order them on a 13.8km run - the distance by which Brentford had out-run his side the previous day.
The 53-year-old joined his players on the run, sending a clear message that, while the failings at Brentford would not be tolerated, this would also be a managerial reign in which responsibility would be collective and the team ethic would be key. Everyone was in it together, an instant correction to the flaws that had been allowed to grow before his arrival.
West Ham played well. The scoreline flattered Man UTD in my opinion and the whistle should have gone a minute before their third goal.
In any case, there was a lot of improvement and things are starting to look up.
Not sure the West Ham goal should have stood but can see how VAR couldn’t rule it out either.
But looking at the photos this morning it looked out. United should have played to the whistle regardless.
