Psst - that's how it is already working ;)
Facepalms reduce your frets score by 1 though the chart of the week only shows the total number of reactions you've had good or bad.

The thing is, we're using the overall "Frets" score as a measure of somebody's reputation in place of post count, yet the way it's set up a facepalm (whether intended humorously or not) negatively affects that score. How about we just don't let the facepalm take away from the fret score (ie it has zero effect)?

Psst - that's how it is already working ;)
Well, I just facepalmed you and your score went from 20 to 19 ;)
I thought we'd agreed that they wouldn't do that - ho hum .......

Maybe...can't remember. I just think that facepalms should be used to apply to the post, not the person. I like the button but not the end result, if you see what I mean :)

Nope, it's been like that since the feature was turned on.

+1    there's the novelty of it being new etc but wouldn't a simple +1/-1 buttons be simpler so it's all about the post... at the moment everyone is being very nice to each other but I'm sure I recall some less pleasant posts on the other place - I guess it's easier for the bosses here to make sure rule1 applies at all times so it's less likely to be a massive issue

  • How does a post count, or even fret count (with or without facepalms), translate to the reputation of the poster.  On MR my post count accelerated when I became unemployed.  I was warned recently about the quality information from 'professional' forumites who do nothing all day but hang around the internet.

I don't think the facepalms (FP) are a bad thing. As Sporks has said "It's only inferwebs".  I wouldn't get bothered or start a thread about getting a FP either.  There are more important things in my life to worry about, like getting a job.

    I like the Facepalms.
I'd like to see an 'I Agree' button.

I think Wow! can go, rather than Facepalm.
I basically use Wow! as a Like/I Agree button already.

A high post count is a measure of how involved you are with a community - if you're doing a trade with somebody, it would mean that there's a higher likelihood that somebody on here would be able to help you get in touch should something go wrong. Even more so with the fret score.

No, it's not perfect, but it's more practical than written references and an Experian credit score.

That's a good argument, wisdom duly credited, which makes more reason for me to keep FPs in.

It was said on one of the other forums that people artificially bump up there post count with "+1" and "This" comments.  This would artificially raise there reputation.

    At this point in time @Handsome_Chris you're 64 ! ;)

As I said, I'm unemployed.  What else am I going to do? Ooo that reminds me, I need to ask for luck.

  • I think (depending on the subject of the post) that a Facepalm says more about the person awarding it than it does about the content of the post for which it was awarded. So I think you should be able to find out who awarded the facepalm (or, indeed other medals the LOL, WOW, and Wisdom).

Can we also have a "nod along in agreement despite not having a clue what they're talking about" button for when ICBM and ECC83 (Dave?) discuss the merits of variable gamma flow in phase impacters vs flux capacitive idex biasing?

    My thoughts:

Facepalms: Keep, unless your going to replace with "kick in the balls" :D Make them not count towards "score"
    Wow: Lose
    Wisdom: Keep
    Postcounts: Bring 'em back

I've held off using them as I didn't know if they were to be used for "Col Decker waking up under a fat groupie" or "someone supporting Putin, Griffin, Coulter, Jazz Racism and/or Dawkins... or invoking Godwins or forwarding jokes that used to faxed back in the days of fax ;)

If the facepalm is well understood I see know problem facepalming and lolling (denoting someone laughing at themselves maybe for a stupid mistake) or facepalming as an opposite to wisdom.

I think it's early doors and we should let a use emerge before we take it away and start the first thefretboard.co.uk forum war (which will be a thing to savour ;^)

I think if it can stay but not reduce the Fret-count then that's perfect. That way someone who gets into lots of post-gig scrapes or whatever can be recognised for that without losing "points" they would gain for being a helpful forumite elsewhere.

Ideally I see the Fret count being a marker to how trustworthy, useful and helpful a member is, and how safely their advice can be taken. ie it would be good if chaps like @ICBM, @Guitarweasel etc can be seen to be excellent trustworthy advice-givers to a newbie without them having to look back through past posts or whatever.

I like wows - I like pedals or amps or guitars that impress or people doing good in their life and sharing it with us.

Maybe make wows worth a few more points that way the doers of this place get the recognition they deserve but don't need cos they're out in the street ... looking for a brighter day... ;)

That was exactly the intention I had for it so whatever we can do to make it more like that is what I want to do.

I thought that FPs were there to signal an instance of breaking rule 1.

Has anyone had to have counselling due to receiving an aggressive bout of FPing, as opposed to the F*Ping?

I've changed my mind, I think it should stay for a while. If its abused or its upsetting people then get rid of it.

But for now let it play out , to see what happens :)

For the avoidance of doubt ;)

I would like a Thanks button, lukewarm but still prefer Agree/+1/Like to Facepalm.
