I don’t think the knobs look awful on the goldtop, they just look a better match on the McCarty Tobacco Sunburst.

Apparently core knobs will fit on the metric splines easily. PRS don't do a metric spline in the nicer model. So might well fit a Gibson. I have both here so will experiment.

I think they look out-of-place on the Goldtop. I prefer gold knobs:

I've been playing mine 3-4 hrs a day for the last week. Apart from needing the nut slots needing lightly working on the only thing I can complain about is how loose the lead feels when plugged into the output socket . I've got a Switchcraft on order. New knobs, locking tuners and a cream trem arm tip arriving this week.

You can prise the shaft open a small amount with a screwdriver. Very gently and very slowly. I'm pretty sure this is what they [are supposed to] do at the factory

I spoke to Strings Direct Sounds Affects about their goldtop and it sounds like it’s a decent one with a nice dark board (the photos there are the exact one).

While talking to them though I tempted myself into buying something a little blingier though, so I’ve got a guitar arriving from them tomorrow…!

No, that's not the same thing at all.

The fix for the knob is to prise open the slot on the shaft a little further to make the knob fit more tightly. However, the metal the shafts are made of is notoriously fragile and breaks easily which would require a new pot. It's entirely possible (probable?) that the reason the knob is loose is that it's been knocked in the shop and the shaft is already damaged/weakened.

At the very least I want the shop to advise me what to do and agree to cover the cost of replacing the pot if it breaks.

I’m a hamfisted loon and have done it twice - once when I got my R7 home in about 2005 and then a few years later when I’d bought new pots for a Sheraton.

Both times a tiny twist of a kitchen knife did the trick. PTFE tape would probably work for another approach.

This guitar was sold as new.

Not at all. I'm just making sure I cover myself and get it fixed.

There's nothing spoiling as I'm waiting the arrival of a set of locking tuners before putting my preferred strings on and getting it set up by my local tech.

I heard from the shop yesterday saying they were sorry they missed my previous message and we're in touch with the guitar dept and hoped to get a response as soon as possible. Nothing further from them yet.

Great service from Axesrus - my order arrived this morning.

I've not fitted the new pot yet, but I think these gold knobs look far better than the original amber knobs:
