I think you will find that mics were listed as “guest who has a business running these kind of effing things to bring their own bloody mics”

    but alas.. you forgot..

Halfway down page 2! What’s wrong with you all?

Anyway ive a dimarzio 36th anniversary in zebra arriving today to match the zebra Suhr DA I swapped into the bridge over the weekend. Good times

Have another use lined up for the custom bucker neck and will keep the bridge in the parts drawer

Oh I’m not sure if I mentioned that these R8’s are awesome

  • I’ve seen 4 sets of 2017 R8 and R9 Custom buckers for sale now ranging from £250-330 a pair

Are they actually *worth* that much? I've seen a few about too.

I presume as most the R8s are in happy owners hands, and not on sale, we might see the thread calm down a little.

FYI - Peach will have an Iced Tea 8.5/8.6 lb (can't remember specifically) plaintop R8 back for sale very soon no doubt.

I really like the Custombuckers - think they are the best pickups Gibson have made (maybe even since the PAF!). I do also like the MHS pickups too - wonder how different they actually are to Custombuckers?

I wonder what the people selling their custom buckers don’t like about them?

I think I have already said it but my R8 is the first guitar I have ever bought where I don’t feel the need to change a thing.

They really are great pups and playing classic rock or blues they really sing. I just prefer hotter pups in my les Paul’s.  Wouldn’t sell them though

Custombuckers seem to vary a LOT.  I'm thinking of swapping out the ones in my R9 as they're pretty weak at 7.8k with AIII magnets.  Very low output that don't suit me so well.

In contrast, my R8 has a pair at 8.3k and they sound a lot better, possibly with slightly stronger magnets too.

Just like the old days of PAFs....

A set of custom buckets sold on eBay last night for £170, which is probably about right in terms of value. They’re good but they’re not £250 good. Definitely the best Gibson have made for a LONG time though.

Despite the fact that they are pretty historically accurate I think it's not always the traditional Les Paul sound some people have in their heads... that almost Telecaster-like twang they can do is perhaps a little surprising to some people so they swap 'em out for stuff with a fatter midrange.

  • Custom Buckers are awesome and so is this R8. I'll not change a single thing about mine. (But I do want a Tobacco one! ;-) )

I think people have become aware that some, not all, of the R8 buyers (not just forum members) may have done it to try and make cash....

I’ve seen one marked as ‘sold’ at £250 but can’t be sure about the rest. Also saw one with the full wiring loom/pots/switch etc asking £350
