There's big money in arms, drugs and medical equipment.

No doubt all our politicians have shares in these industries. Especially the Tories.

Mr Blair probably has quite a few....

    And many people's pension companies.
    Pssst..

The Labour Party is full of tories, and Blair is absolutely a Tory!
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I love how half of you seem to think I would actually want to build a bomb.  Arguing about the labour costs!!  FFS!

I was hoping this would be a bit of a laugh with people suggesting prices they'd do it for, which parts they'd use or crazy modifications, but it's all turned rather snide and mean-spirited from a handful.  Nice.
Maybe you should have actually have written that in your first post ?! Say what you mean!

I reckon I could knock one of those up in no time for no more than £6K - plus explosives.

Sure, but their's would reach the target and explode.

How much can we manage for....

    Four Dreadnaught class SSBNs?

    A railway to Birmingham?

Because the government are in hock for quite a few quid for both of those things, so if we can knock either up for a few grand with a roll of gaffer tape, we should at least go on Dragon's Den?
We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

I think we can probably apply a version of Rule 47 to this. If you can think of it, there's porn and/or an Instructible already.

    Rule 34.

Rule 47 of the Internet is "You will never have sex". Which could well also apply.

I thought rule 52 was "you can make up rule numbers as you go along"?

It seemed out of keeping with the thread to say "oops, you're right - my mistake".

Of course I'm not going to actually build a bloody remote control bomb!  And certainly not for the entertainment of the forum - or - to prove you all wrong when I successfully sink the Bismarck.

I wish I had an arms company though because clearly you all think that ANY price, no matter how high, is perfectly ok for anything more complex than a roller skate with a banger on it.

To repost what I wrote in the other thread...

    Emp_Fab said:

I've already broken down the components and made it obvious why I think £6K is an achievable budget. Your turn to explain why you think £200,000 is a reasonable figure, and to do it better than "because it is". Is there a price point which you would consider excessive ? If they were £500,000 each, £1M each ? Would you still be arguing "Of course that's what they cost !" ? £10M ? £100M ?

Even you must surely have some idea of what needs to go into a remote-control boat to power, steer and explode otherwise you couldn't make any argument against any price - low or high, could you ?  So, either you have absolutely no idea at all and would blindly accept any figure, no matter how high, without question, or you have some idea and could say at what point you think they're taking the piss. If it's the former, you have no meaningful input to this subject and certainly no basis to criticise my guesstimate and if it's the latter, let's hear it... put your estimates up.

.....and don't all turn to Thorpy for guidance, you're all taking the piss, so you give YOUR OWN estimates.

Of course, none of you will though.  Far too risky that, going out on a limb and risking looking foolish.

Why would we not go to Thorpy?

He’s an actual expert and sane people defer to experts.

Next time you need surgery I demand that you rely on non surgeons and refuse to defer to surgeons.

The people who haven’t tried to cost out a leading edge remote control weapon are the sensible ones. They realise they do not have the knowledge to even have a wild guess at it.

    They are the smart ones.

You are trying to win a war, let’s ask a guy in wales who can’t decide on a car after 3 years of deliberations to build us a weapon.

    sure, that’s smart.

You sunbathed naked for the entertainment of the forum (I presume it wasn’t for the entertainment of the neighbours), so why not build a boat with a few sparklers on? Bloody kill joy.

Come on Emp, I was looking forward to this build.  Give it a crack.

After all, it's not like you didn't start it or anything... :-)

In some things, it's wise to defer to the expert.

So, for building bangy things, that's Thorpy.

Whereas, for looking foolish, there's someone else who's way better at that.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

Oh come off it, what’s nasty about asking a man to build a boat that he has claimed he could build to a tighter budget than the major military superpowers? If Emp lacks that much of a sense of humour he really should stick to posting threads about guitars.

    It’s not nasty.
With the amount of threads like this that Emp posts I can only assume the reaction is one he desires.

To be fair, I think Emp's trying to win a war too, although I'm not sure how many people are fighting.

Having designed a large range of equipment for offshore use I can guarantee you could not build that for £6k.
£6 might be the fee for one of the regulatory bodies just to get the first unit signed off.

Pfft,  we didn't leave the EU to be bogged down by the need for regulatory bodies... Gentlemen Jim's emporium of wondrous hand-bodged things will have us ruling the waves before you can knot a hankie, or I'm not John Bull... :)
