I think we can probably apply a version of Rule 47 to this. If you can think of it, there's porn and/or an Instructible already.

Hey, I'm not talking "M&S drone bombs", I'm talking Parkside or Workzone from AldiLidl quality.  C'mon....  Does nobody think two hundred thousand pounds for ONE of those things seems a bit extortionate?

I'll bet the Chinese or Pakistanis could get you a hundred for that price.

    It's disgraceful profiteering, that's all.
You’re not thinking of the poor shareholders, are you..?
so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

I love how half of you seem to think I would actually want to build a bomb.  Arguing about the labour costs!!  FFS!

I was hoping this would be a bit of a laugh with people suggesting prices they'd do it for, which parts they'd use or crazy modifications, but it's all turned rather snide and mean-spirited from a handful.  Nice.

There's big money in arms, drugs and medical equipment.

No doubt all our politicians have shares in these industries. Especially the Tories.

I thought it was obvious!  I'm saying I could build a sea-going remote-control boat bomb for £6K.  Exactly what I've said multiple times throughout this and the Crazy Claims thread (NPI!)

Various people seem to have found this personally offensive for some reason and previously unspecified design requirements are being demanded from my boat bomb, presumably to justify the huge price from the manufacturer.

My boat bomb would not have electronic countermeasures, radar, dilithium crystals or a panini maker.  My bomb would need a human operating the remote (which appears to also be the case in the official version).  It would also need access to mobile data signal or be operated within range of a commercial conventional remote control system.

It would be highly unlikely to be effective against military vessels with their ECM and other hi-tech kit, but it could take out a merchant ship as effectively as the expensive version.

I said I could build a boat bomb that could blow stuff up for £6K and I still maintain that.

So by stripping out the expensive stuff you’re not comparing “apples with apples“  then Emp.

At school I built an electric car for less than £20. It was 20 cm long, made of plywood and was powered by a Duracell. I wouldn’t be brazen enough to compare it to a £50k Tesla.

How are you quantifying "as effectively"?

I'm unconvinced that you have access to purchasing military grade explosives for starters, so you couldn't build this at all. I doubt you could build a sea-worthy powered boat this size for £6k.

Then why won’t you take my bet? Free money if you are so confident!

and what is the point if it’s ineffective for the task? Is that like making a chocolate teapot?

I too can build an F1 car for £500.  Oh, you didn't say I can't do it with lego at 1/24th a scale!

    To quote yourself...

"I wonder how bullshitters' minds work.  I can't imagine conjuring up some grand claim then looking people straight in the eye and repeating it.  I couldn't do it.  The self-loathing for being in such desperate need for validation would be awful.  Maybe bullshitters just don't think that deeply?  Maybe all they can focus on is the dopamine hit from the attention they get for having the 'top story'.

One thing I have noticed about them though is that they seem absolutely indifferent as to whether or not their claim is believed.  It's as if the dopamine hit comes from them just saying it, not whether anyone believes them.  This might be at the root of why some make more and more outlandish claims.  Claims that nobody could ever believe.  The bigger the claim, the bigger the rush.  You'd think that whether people believed you or thought you were full of shit would be very important to them, but in my experience it seems not at all!"

Your OP exact phrase was "I reckon I could knock one of those up in no time for no more than £6K - plus explosives."

One of those, and that means the capability of one of those, if it does not have those capabilities then it is NOT one of those.  Then you are building something else, something crap, something useless.  Stop digging the hole please.  Man up and say "sorry, I was foolish, Thorpy showed me why I was wrong, my mistake".

Then at least you will have some respect, now you are just being ridiculous.

Bets aside, come on Emp have some fun with this: do a build thread. We all know it’ll fail miserably but you and we will all have a bloody good giggle whilst you regale us with tales of how remote control boats 1-5 went the way of the titanic when on open sea, the fireworks were too damp to ignite and the final boat went into a roll when approaching anything bigger than a rubber dingy. It’ll be a bloody good laugh.

^^ This by the bucket-load.  I'm enjoying this thread - I see no reason to take it too seriously.  It's just a good bit of fun and now @Emp_Fab has set himself up to do the best build thread you'll ever see.  In particular, I'm looking forward to the sea trials :-)

    * EDIT - you'll need a vehicle with 4WD to tow your completed vessel to a body of water.  I'm sure you'll find a few suggestions on make/model on here :-)

Indeed. This thread is absolutely turn-around-able. Even if all we end up with is a £9,000 overdraft and a slightly wobbly RC dinghy with a firework on board that doesn't go off because it got wet.
