So thats a bargain really for the Drone boat.  IT will likely have the following features:

    Typical.

There's always someone who jumps in on these threads, who's obviously spent 5mins on Google and then thinks they're an expert on the subject.

Unless you're some kind of ex-military Major with years of experience of exploding things, I'm sticking with Emp.
Having trouble posting images here?  This might help.

I for one look forward to the buld thread.
I think that may be a long time coming. We haven't had 26 pages of the "What detonator for a drone boat?" thread yet
But first we’ll have the “I still can get that boat out of the mud, any ideas?” thread.

Edit, bugger, beaten to it by Sporks.

It wouldn’t matter what the budget, I can confirm the one i made would look shit and probably not float let alone be able to carry a payload to a precise location.

Hey, I'm not talking "M&S drone bombs", I'm talking Parkside or Workzone from AldiLidl quality.  C'mon....  Does nobody think two hundred thousand pounds for ONE of those things seems a bit extortionate?

I'll bet the Chinese or Pakistanis could get you a hundred for that price.

    It's disgraceful profiteering, that's all.

I bet you £6k that you can't make one for under £6k, for your salary in time + material cost.

Be sure to bill your time for research, and development into the cost.

Just to simplify it for you.

£6,000, at £20 per hour wages, is 300 hours of work time.  300 hours into 9 hours day is 33 days.

You basically have a month to work on it to make it under budget.  That is if you have all the equipment for free, all the materials for free, all the electricity for free, all the rent for free.  That is work for 1 single person...

So, go get all your equipment, material and then make it for under £6k, for £20 an hour rate.

    Want to take my bet?

@fretmeister  ; I really needed to see that for a good belly laugh.  I had a shitty night at work, the weather's crap, and to top it off the mint green scratchplate doesn't look right on my self-build sherwood green strat with parchment pickup covers and knobs.  Now I can't stop looking at that animation and pissing myself laughing  :)

I think anything the government, or mod, buys seems hiked up in price.

Things like bin lorries are rediculous. One of those carts the street cleaners push round cost about £500! The flat next to mine is (or was) used by the council and I believe they pay not far off double what I pay for mine.

They seem to get away with it. Probably involves back-handers and corruption.

See Emp, the thing with yer explodey things, is that you want them to be CERTAIN of doing it when you need them to, and equally CERTAIN of not doing it al the rest of the time. The effort is not in making something go bang (some things really want to), it's in the certainty. Both types.

Similarly anything that's only going to be where it is at the moment it's really being relied on because of weeks, months or even years of planning and effort and logistics needs to be certain of being ready and reliable at that moment. That's where the  money goes. Well, a good chunk of it.

nah, if history has taught me anything it's that cutting corners with explosives has no downsides whatsoever.

I love how half of you seem to think I would actually want to build a bomb.  Arguing about the labour costs!!  FFS!

I was hoping this would be a bit of a laugh with people suggesting prices they'd do it for, which parts they'd use or crazy modifications, but it's all turned rather snide and mean-spirited from a handful.  Nice.

If we're talking hypothetically, I would take the money, spend it all in the classifieds and then go into hiding. Pretty sure I can evade the military, if Bin Laden can

I'm convinced you could do this on the cheap.  I'm sure the kayaks used by "outward bound" course organisers eventually get a bit too scabby to keep using and you might pick up one for buttons.  Obviously they are open-topped, but you could wrap some heavy duty tinfoil or very thick industrial clingfilm around the aperture multiple times after stuffing it full of match head scrapings or the explosive from half-price fireworks you can normally get on 6th November.  The percussion cap to detonate it on contact with something solid could just be a 6 inch nail poking out the bow with the pointy bit inside up against one of those cheap "striker" survival tools used for starting fires.  The navigation could be solved by paying an intellectually challenged, but incredibly strong swimmer with good directional senses, about £7 an hour to wear those huge long flippers and push the vessel through the water towards the intended target.  Easy peasy.  You might even be able to start a GoFundMe page or get a startup grant to finance the project.

Where is your sense of humour Emp? You know that if there is one place where folks will get sidetracked it is here, I’m amazed it’s just labour law and not the storage of explosives! :)
