Right, I’m going to pull the trigger today.

Thinking the green one, but haven’t seen it in the flesh. Reminds me of Clapton’s 7up strat. Any opinions on colours, now a few have them in their hands?

I like the red, but not for £100 extra.

Mine in the green one, I think it's gorgeous.
We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

Yeah, the green would be my choice.

I like the green on the us version too. ( I always read this as 'Onion Green' but now realise its 'Orion Green').

Went for the moon white as I've got a green guitar already.

Wasn't too fussed while looking at either online but it's better in person and plays really well. Would have loved the other colours but not for £100 extra

Casino teasing an expanded Silver Sky product line in their latest vid (also alluded to by @guitars4you)

I’m so close to pulling the trigger now after following this thread for the last few weeks! As above, hows everyone finding them please? Does anyone have any idea when the sale will end?

I managed to spend only  couple hours with mine so far as I've been super busy with work, but my initial impression exceeded the expectations to be honest. Quality for this price is amazing. Plugged in sounded great too. I have just recently bought a US strat from a lovely dude on here so I'll try to compare both guitars over next few weeks.

Mine is good. No problems, no worries, no tweaking needed out of the box.

I'd prefer elixer strings, so when the strings it came with have had their day, I'll pop some on.

Took it to practice and it sounded great in the mix.

The gig bag it almost indistinguishable from the one that came with a core Mira I bought second hand. The SE one is grey, core it black, obviously it has SE on it other than that they are super similar.

Very good. Not tried it in anger yet but took it away for the week and my mate who also plays was seriously impressed was it. Got it to compare against a vintera thinking I’d replace or return but different enough to keep the two of them according to my weird internal logic

Very tempted too, even though I have a Core. Think it would be an easy decision if the stone blue was at £599 like a couple of others, although the green reminds me of my old 7-up Clapton so that would be the one I’d go for.

  • If I liked the colours more I’d probably have grabbed one too, there’s something ‘off’ about them in pics but I hear they’re better in-person - I’m yet to see any pics that convince me of that though!

I grabbed the Moon White version....its pretty yellow!

Guitar plays well, sounds nice. If I like it enough I may get it refinished in a better colour. I need to see how it stacks up in a live context first.

My initial thoughts are, its a decent guitar at £599. I wouldn't pay £800 for it.

I held off in the end. There was a Red one on Absolute for £599, but I hesitated and missed it. The other colours don’t really inspire me that much.

I went to an actual guitar shop yesterday, first time in about 3 years.
What I found was the SS felt cheap and I really didn’t like the neck. I plugged it in and it sounded very quiet, dark and dead. I was very surprised.
They have 2 more so I tried them too in case it was an anomaly but nope all were (as you’d expect from PRS), pretty consistent.
The cheap Jet 400 strat I tried though was truly amazing, felt great, played great and sounded like a very good strat.
Oh and I also tried my first chapman and it was really good too.
It just goes to show don’t base your opinions on the internet and go out and experience the guitars with your own hands and ears.

Despite the Jet only being £169 with a neck a touch too narrow for me I’ll still probably get one as it was a fun playing and great sounding guitar.
The chapman felt very heavy and I picked it up out of pure curiosity. I liked the neck profile and it was very resonant. Plugged in it sounded and played great. If it didn’t say chapman on the headstock I’d have walked out with it. I may still go back for it.

There's one in stock at my local PMT. Maybe I'll pop in for a strummy strum. The neck is supposed to be a smidge under 1" at the 12th which sounds like something I'd enjoy

I definitely don’t think it feels cheap but I can understand that view because that’s how I feel about literally every Strat bar Custom Shop or Suhr/Xotic because ultimately most of the front is a load of white plastic.

The SS SE has a lovely neck that feels really well made and all the pots and hardware are top notch.

Yeah I don’t know what made it seem that way to me, maybe it was because everything I touched was plastic? The  tuner buttons felt brittle to me, the switch tip was odd and the knobs where crooked. I love SE guitars in general but I guess the silver sky isnt for me.
That Jet 400 though , that put the SS to shame in my eyes/hands. Less than 3.5x the price of the SS but felt the better made guitar. Sounded great too.

My experience was closer to this than any of the other reviews in this thread — didn’t think it was a bad guitar by any means, but I was a bit underwhelmed.

If it was a single cut,had a carved top,in any colour that you wanted, probably deep purple and with two humbuckers it would be a snip at £599. But I have a very very nice Fender strat already,I would not want another strata like.

I think PRS should have gone with dots and a strat a like 6 in a row headstock , i would have 100% bought one if they had these but the wonky bottle opener ( never liked it) headstock and fancy birds ruin it.

Besides the nut width, the carve on the inner of the lower horn also ruins it for me.

  • i love my dragon fruit silver sky. I got mine prior to the discounts but had it for £650 so very happy at that price. The gig bag is very decent as well. Its very well made as you would expect from PRS and has exceptional fret work. I had to raise the G saddle as it would choke on high bends but apart from that it was great out of the box. Not overall keen on the strings as i like slinkier strings but the pick ups shine and there is a noticeable and pleasant change in sounds available. even the bridge pickup is nice - overall a steal at £599

Aside from the colour choice, isn't that essentially the SE Tremonti?

Do they do a boggo SE singlecut any more?

I struggle to keep up with these things - as per Homer Simpson, every time a new piece of information goes into my brain it pushes an old piece out.

Not in purple, but you can tick every other box off at £599 at the moment:
