As we will all be together at Factory Studios 5 weeks tomorrow, it may be sensible to drop Since You've Been Gone, Talk Dirty To Me and You Really Got Me unless a volunteer for vocals comes forward this weekend. This would leave us with 10 tracks remaining on the 'official' setlist, which I would suggest we complement with very well known classic tracks that lend themselves to informal jamming on the day (no tricky drum parts/timing, no strange keys for vocalists, and plenty of scope for freestyle soloing). Please come forward and suggest a track or two over the course of this weekend.
As no volunteers have come forward for vocals on Since You've Been Gone, Talk Dirty To Me and You Really Got Me, I have removed these tracks from the setlist which we can now consider final (updated list in the first post).

  • @nickp how are we doing on collecting subs?

  • Gent's I'm sorry to be a pain, but I am going to have to bail on this.   I've been putting the decision off for too long, but a number of things are conspiring against me, not least a new job (for which I am thankful).

I'll pony up the money for my late pull out.

  • Previous jams such as this have been recorded and wondered what the views are on potentially doing the same this time (obviously implies that someone has the kit and knowledge required)?

Twelve hours of tumbleweed later ...

IIRC, "someone" equates to LegionReturns and/or the artist currently known as mrkb.

If the hiring price includes microphones, stands, foldback monitors and a mixing console with eight sub-groups, it should be possible to make eight-track live recordings into a typical laptop computer, running Apple Logic, AVID Pro Tools or similar via a suitable in/out box.

I am reluctant to offer to do any recording. At the time of this writing, my car still hasn't had the work it should have undergone three weeks ago. The dealership keeps fobbing me off with excuses about not having all of the parts BUT the parts they lack seem to change every time I ask. I cannot guarantee to even get to Bristol.

    UPDATE
Latest "promised" day for car attention is Friday 10th. I shall believe it when I see it.
    Be seeing you.

OK with me. Unfortunately, I don't have a decent portable recording set up, so I can't help with that bit.

    It's not a competition.

    I've not put my name down for any bits on da tunes yet as life and work are a bit mad.  Is it ok to just pick a few from the setlist and work out the chords n stuff and go from there?  @Brocco ;

@nickp of course, although please do confirm ahead of the event which tracks you would like to play on so this can be factored into the running order

  • Just for clarity there’s no drums in That’s Entertainment. Can we do that in the middle somewhere so I can grab a break!  Oh and I’m pretty much guaranteed to get lost in the middle of Cold Hard Bitch

Well that makes two of us   It should add to the fun.

In fact, that's doing better than me, because I might even get lost during the Intro.

There a couple of single strokes here and there on the studio recording but nothing essential. If you ask me, Weller played all of the instruments himself.
    Be seeing you.

I’m cool with Johnny b Goode and you really got me. Not sure how they are for guitars and bass though

Johnny & YRGM were both proposed for the main setlist but did not attract a vocalist. As there are many guitarists, suggest that we leave the choice of which 'jam' tracks we will try by asking @onlyonebradders @nickos236 ;@bobblehat to confirm  which of the tracks proposed (as below) they are happy to do (the first group of tracks were proposed by @bobblehat):

    Fortunate Son
    Have love will travel
    Bohemian Like You
    20th Century Boy
    Brown Sugar
    Satisfaction
    The Last Time

    The Thrill Is Gone
    Crossroads
    Ain't No Sunshine
    Pride and Joy
    Sweet Home
    Let's Stick Together
    Wild Thing
    Tush (ZZ Top)
    Get It On (T Rex)
    Long Train Running
    Superstition
    Funky Music
    Beat It
    Rocking In The Free World
    Hold Your Head Up

It's the Intro to the electric studio version that confuses me. The acoustic version (I posted earlier) makes sense. Also, the various live versions have a different Intro that also makes rhythmic sense.

Being anal about these things I put the electric studio version in Reaper. Then I tempo matched it and put a click against it referenced to an obvious start of a bar later in the Intro. Working back from that, it appears that the electric studio version has just over an 1/8th note clipped off the start.

Anyway, I think @Brocco and @Vibetronic are down for the guitars. I'm not sure who's doing the bass. If it ends up being me, I'll just follow the drummer

    It's not a competition.

Sorry I had a bit of a wobble and went to ground, and then I got covid, so been away for a bit. Looks like you guys have got it together but if there's gaps I can plug them on bass or guitar or vocals.

@roberty echo that. The structured setlist is within the first post, so please take a look and let us know what you would like to contribute (don't be put off if your preferred role seems to be taken). Especially interested to know if you could add vocals to Johnny B Goode, You Really Got Me or any of the other classic tracks listed a few posts up on this page of the discussion. You will see that you are down to play on Richard III based on a comment you made a few months ago.
