I just started The Bear: Season 2 on Disney+. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14452776/

I really enjoyed Season 1 & this is more of the same.  Really easy to watch 30-40 minute episodes in the evening about them opening up a new restaurant, with their target of achieving a Michelin star. Recommended!

    I finished Mad Men.

    Loved it.

    I need something new now.
    Good Girls?

Maybe not a natural follow on but more Christina Hendricks.

We've just watched FUBAR on Netflix, Arnie's latest thing.

    It is completely ridiculous!

Arnie pretending to be much younger, and failing.  The amount of belief one has to suspend to just imagine the stunts, tech and plot are remotely feasible, and the stupid interpersonal relationship bollocks that we are meant to believe is happening in an elite CIA squad - give me a break.

But, I really enjoyed it.  Arnie still cannot act and that's worth watching just on its own.  Despite its ridiculousness it also quite funny and highly entertaining.  Unless Arnie dies in the meantime there is almost certainly going to be a season 2, and I can't wait.
Just watching this now. Yes the plot/concept is nonsense but it is very entertaining nonsense.I also like the fact that there's no annoying intro or recap to skip through at the start of each episode.

  • Ms RocknRoll has been watching Wolf on the iplayer tonight.

Absolute drivel. Trying so hard to be edgy and clever, but so badly done.
It’s like a teenager has tried to rip off Killing Eve and set it in Wales.

On the topic of drivel, we have tried watching the TV series remake of True Lies on Disney.

Utter garbage!  Badly written, badly acted and unconvincing characters, every single one of them!

And the stunts are laughably bad, just how slow they were filmed is painfully obvious because they still look slow.

Please, don’t bother. I gave up after two episodes.

I really enjoyed Hinterland, crime series set in Wales and starring a @RocknRollDave lookalike. Slightly gobsmacked that it was nearly ten years ago. Filmed in Welsh and in English and Welsh.

Most of the way through The Last of Us on Sky/Now. Standard US post apocalypse stuff mostly but very well done standard US post apocalypse stuff.

Just to give myself some gravitas: David Harewood on Blackface (BBC2/ iPlayer) well worth a watch. Some of it was obviously filmed toward the end of covid restrictions which makes it look a bit odd and it’s more specifically about minstrels rather than all blackface but really interesting and informative watch.

I was reading about it and thought it sounded vaguely interesting, but I'm not sure I can be bothered.

If it helps, @Philly_Q , Our Maud has been bingeing it this week, and she says it's a dark comedy which she's finding very funny - due to the incompetence of the protagonists.

    YMMV of course!  =)

    PSA.
For the first time since 1976, the BBC is to be repeating the groundbreaking TV series 'I Claudius' ( often called  'I Clavdivs' at the time) on BBC Four.
    Starting on August 16th at 22.50  https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mhmk/broadcasts/upcoming

Given that BBC R4 regularly repeats programmes multiple times, sometimes on the same day (grrrrrr!) it's astounding that it has taken them so long to get to this point.
Hope that it has aged well, as it had a really stellar acting cast. I can still remember the storyline & many of the scenes with great clarity today, it really was a hugely important TV milestone IMHO.

I'm enjoying Special Ops: Lioness at the moment.
Pretty much 'by the numbers' action but it keeps the tension up for me, plus Zoe Soldana!

It feels a bit "plastic" but it's enjoyable.
Zoe with hard-ass attitude and dirty mouth is a bit of a different and new look for her - but it works.

Most of the way through The Last of Us on Sky/Now. Standard US post apocalypse stuff mostly but very well done standard US post apocalypse stuff.
Finished The Last Of Us which was good but the main character was a man in his fifties and at no point did he mention his pension forecast so I felt it lacked credibility.

Started on Good Omens 2 (Prime). If anyone knows the pyramids off the M8 near Glasgow apparently mostly filmed in a studio just behind them.

so if you fancy a reissue of a guitar they never made in a colour they never used then it probably isn't too overpriced.

We have started watching Only Murders in the Building and are now close to the end of season one.

I really like it.  It's well made, light hearted and has enough intrigue to make you want more.  The characters are well written and with Steve Martin and Martin Short in the leads, plus Selena Gomez, it's well acted and feels like quality stuff.

It also has the element of trying to guess who dun it.  It's on Disney + if anyone wishes to give it a try.

We've run out of TV series to watch on Netflix, so we've started on the Spanish "Money Heist".

Two episodes in - does it get better?

I don't get series 2. It feels different somehow. Pretentious, yet almost trying to be a sitcom. I can't explain it.

Just started watching the Oppenheimer series from 1980, in iPlayer. It was a bit before my time back then so have no memories of it. Only one episode in, and whilst it does feel like something of it's time, it does well at putting over the idea that at the time the development of the A bomb was seen as a moral imperative as Hitler was developing it etc. And it does well to pastiche and mock the champagne socialists of the time.

I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.

I loved the original series. Second one not so much, Korean remake was just odd (and even more ridiculous, you might not have thought it was possible but it was).
It is fairly low budget, fairly silly, eye popping product placement, quite sexy, possibly homophobic (the second series seems to over compensate for this and also has a shed load of violence but by then they were making it for the American market). Enjoy it as Spanish quirkiness. My son’s boss is Spanish and lives in Spain (works entirely remotely) and apparently it was a national obsession.

Oh no. It's not as if the writing is so good and the characters so interesting that you can happily ignore the plot holes.

I'll let Ms GT know and we'll decide whether to carry on with it tonight.

Yeah, I'll probably be starting on the third series very soon.  The characters can be a bit annoying at times but the storylines, once they get going, are pretty good.  And I'm developing a sad-old-man crush on Selena Gomez.

@goldtop - what @EricTheWeary says is all true; I'd add that I was very curious as to how they would do it, so I watched all of series 1 and stayed interested.  This is unusual for me as I normally have the attention span of a tadpole.

Series 2, however... suffice to say, I lost interest, but Our Maud ploughed on to the bitter end!   ;)

Yes, we normally love Spanish movies, and it's definitely quirky, but with some boorish writing/direction.

The first time we gratuitously see 'Tokyo' in her skimpies, part of my brain thought "great!" and the other part thought "really?". Then there's the pervy bit of watching the young girl being sexploited twice.

    We'll see...

    Dexter: New Blood

    Sky Atlantic/ NOW

I had been quite excited about this then completely forgot about it until recently. It’s not brilliant, it’s not terrible. Probably a bit pointless if you don’t have at least some familiarity with the original series. Watched it for a sense of completeness I guess.

I started looking through all the stuff I’d bookmarked on Netflix ages ago but never got around to watching. Made a start on The Chestnut Man last night, a Danish crime noir series. It’s pretty gruesome but I’m already hooked after a couple of episodes.

We watched that last year as part of our prep for going to Denmark. Didn't help but it was a good series.
