The TV Thread

What's Hot
There is a film thread and I feel bad for its little cousin as I think there is some excellent TV around these days. Especially important in lockdown.
What are you binging/watching that you would recommend? Older stuff people may have missed?
Ideally if you would put where you saw it as well that would be helpful.

I have just finished season 2 of Back (Channel 4). Mitchell and Webb but not their writing. Excellent stuff bit not written by them.

Vexxed. Only two seasons of three. First is the best I think. Last seen on Netflix I think.

Anytime I see a thread like this I have to recommend The Shield (not to be confused with the marvel universe one of a similar name). Fave show of all time The Sopranos but hopefully most will have seen that already.

The Shield is a rollercoaster from start to finish absolutely must watch

Watchmen. It succeeds where the film didn’t.

Things I've particularly liked over the last year:

    Cobra Kai (Netflix)

Into the Night (Netflix) - only six episodes, hopefully there'll be a second series

    The Boys (Amazon)

Slasher (Netflix) - not for everyone, it's pretty gory, but well done

    Mindhunter (Netflix)

  • Too much TV.

Anyway, just got into Blown Away on Netflix which is a glass blowing competition ( really) but worth watching for the repeated use of the phrase Glory Hole.

Also on Netflix is Lupin. It's roughly a French equivalent of Sherlock as it modernises the tales of Arsene Lupin. Only half a series so far on there.

I'm not usually very positive about Netflix but there is a bit of a dearth elsewhere at the moment.

The Great on Channel 4 which is funny, sexy, bit crazy. Highly recommended.
I’ll handle this Violet, you take your three hour break.

  • What do people recommend on Amazon Prime? I've just signed up for month's free trial (mainly because I needed a few things quickly) so figured I'd try and get some use out of the month's Prime Video subscription while it lasts.

Truth Seekers. They've just announced no second series but it's what you'd want Dr Who to be.

I've always hated Dr Who and things like that, so not sure it would be my cup of tea!

I hadn't heard that.  It would've been interesting to see where they'd have gone with a second series.

On "normal" TV I find Would I Lie to You consistently funny, hilarious when Bob Mortimer is a guest.

It also has Below Decks (I think it's called) the Trek animated series.

I watched quite a few old films on Talking Pictures when I was at my brother's house over Christmas.

I do love that stuff, the only thing I would say is that they promote a lot of their content as "lovingly digitally restored" but in fact nearly all of it looks terrible and VHS-like.  I watched a film called The Second Woman (with Robert Young and Betsy Drake) and it was a Spanish print (with English dialogue of course) - every time a letter or a piece of text appeared on screen, it was in Spanish!  I guess it's all public-domain stuff which they can get hold of cheaply.

I bought a whole bunch of Foyle's War DVDs, great show.
Also Columbo cos I didn't see enough repeats of it.
