I'm going to swerve regarding commenting on the coms between buyer and seller - there's been plenty of that.

Looking at the original pics from Reverb, though, I would say that a) you can see there are some marks on the case, and the seller has mentioned that in the blurb, but IMHO, b) They are a bit more than "pick marks" from careful use. They're the sort of scratches that you get when another pedal with sharper metal edges comes loose and scratches the one closest.

It does seem to me that the seller has been overpositive in saying "Used - excellent". They're not surface or finish scratches you can remove with T-Cut, they're deeper than that. "Used - very good" would have covered it, though.

The seller says in the first exchange:
'I absolutely agree that we could have done a better job of highlighting them, and I apologize for any oversight on our part.'
He then offers a refund in the same message.

What he didn't do was accept the OP's request for more money off the pedal ... and in that respect he is simply exercising his right to refuse a lower offer.

buyer: " I've received this product I bought from you, and it's not arrived how I expected "

seller: "ok, sorry about that, we can issue a refund"

buyer: "how dare you, I want money off or I'm going to post this on a forum so everyone can see how terrible you are"

welcome to 2023 everyone, actually quite sad.

glad this thread has been left up, I now know I can buy with confidence from Chris, knowing if there are any issues they'll be more than happy to resolve the issue.

  • Chris doesn’t just sell used pedals, Pedal Pawn also produce a line of effect pedals too. Their Gypsy Vibe is one of the best out there, Josh at JHS put it on his best pedals of 2021 list….

You're correct. The seller also says "We've taken a closer look, and it appears that these markings are remnants from the manufacturing process." and I would call bulls**t on that. It's damage, not a minor flaw from manufacturing. I found the Reverb guidelines for what differentiates "excellent" from "very good" without too much trouble, and I've never tried to list anything for sale on there. I'd expect better accuracy from a business using Reverb as a sales channel. But anyone can make a mistake or get confused when listing an item - especially if it's one of many and you're in a rush. It's what you do when the buyer complains that matters, and they've done well, I think.

That's a great summary, & for me Chris comes across as a gent and a totally fair & reasonable guy who I wouldn't hesitate to buy from.  There's an old saying: you nearly always get further with milk & honey than piss and vinegar. I'm pretty sure that if the OP went down a different, friendlier route, Chris might well have been prepared to consider some level of reasonable price adjustment, but even if not he immediately offered a full refund anyway.  There are times where you may need to ramp up the ante when you're genuinely not being treated fairly and you've tried the gentle approach but to no avail. But this situation, at least as reported, just isn't one of them.
I started out with nothing..... but I've still got most of it left (Seasick Steve)

  • One thing for sure is that I can’t see many of us here now wishing to sell to the OP via the classifieds section.

Too easy to judge, too often we pitchfork, so many times we take an opposing keyboard stance…

We’re better than this as a forum, imho.

The only pitchfork wielding person on here is the OP.

He even stands by his posts, even after everyone telling him he is in the wrong.

Why delete it? If he stands by it, leave it up.  If he admits he is wrong, then tell us he is wrong and a simple "I stand corrected" would go a long way.

Now OP just looks like someone who refuse to see he made a mistake and double down on it, yet remove the evidence.

If this weren't such a niche topic it'd be a great viral IATA clickbait on twitter etc.

I think we've all learned a lot about ourselves from how we each conducted ourselves here. I obviously come out best, and statues will be made in my name. Cirrus the man who did not really advocate for murder, they'll call me. And they'll be right.

Just the same as he was with the seller. He doubled down further with every message he sent.

Like I said earlier. One to now avoid in the classifieds.

My grandfather once said to me 'it's not the mistakes you make that are ultimately what you are judged by, is how you rectify them.' now I think it's game over ... lets all go and criticise Gibson ...

Oh, I don't know, buy something from him and if there's even a speck of dust on it, you can righteously demand a 50% discount otherwise you'll ruin his life.
