The ex FCS masterbuilder's new guitars are hitting the shops and they are $8k! Ouch! His pics on FB show that much like his Masterbuilt Fenders he doesn't do the bulk of the building himself. Dreadful headstock. I think GG are going to stock them over here.

He uses a secret technique for bolting a neck to a body that no-one has been able to replicate.
    The guy's a genius with a screwdriver.

£8k, madness...  though personally I quite like the headstock! Reminds me of a bird (feathered variety).

It might have been interesting if he'd come up with something - other than the headstock - to differentiate his guitars from what he used to build at Fender.

Tbh, they are 8k and selling out straight away, if people are happy to buy, then win win.  They are likely amazing guitars to be fair.  He's verrrrry good at making great guitars.

    I don't mind the headstock, but I don't have 8k

I was so hoping it was going to be truly truly awful.

Looks alright but wouldn't personally spend £800 on its never mind £8k.

At least the Tyler headstock is interesting, and has been there from the earliest days of boutique builders.

I don’t get these at all. Just an uglier Fenderor extra money

It's an 8k, 'designed for mass production' style guitar bolted together by a bloke with a reputation. It's been worked to look 'old' but is brand new and has no legacy.

It's just wrong on every level...

how many ways can you bolt a strat/tele neck to a body ?    the original way seems to have worked pretty well for over 60 years

they're strats and teles,   even £5k is way too much

Bolted or glued it's all cut out by CNC and slapped together whatever.

John Cruz appears to have shifted his first batch so there must be some demand. He is no different to suhr and Tom anderson really. All have left fender to churn out their "improved" versions of well known classics
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

In fairness Suhr and Anderson are an improvement on the originals, a standard Suhr or Anderson is very much a better guitar out of the box than a standard Fender as it's had more care and attention afforded to it during manufacture. I would also argue that they use better materials in the build than a standard Fender.

My head said brake, but my heart cried never.

Yep. Those both have fairly chunky mods - SS frets, different shapes, pickup combinations, fancy tops etc.

These just look like Fenders with ugly headstocks.

I like the headstock shape. It does look like a rip off of the Friedman but I like that one too. $8000 probably corresponds quite directly with Masterbuilt CS so I'm not sure there's too much to be scandalised by, beyond believing that no bolt on guitar could be worth that much.

Objectively you could argue that but as soon as you put two guitars in your hands you may well like the Fender more. It’s not like they’re cheap, or shabby instruments and Custom Shop guitars are excellent instruments with particular neck carves that you just might like more.

It's interesting the number of times this forum manages to reduce all Fender and similar guitars to "just a neck bolted to a body" and therefore worth a few hundred quid at most.

It's as if all those other things like pickups, electronics, hardware, paint, fretwork and the actual construction of that neck and body are completely irrelevant.

I don't mind the headstock either. There's far worse out there.

I am in the 8K for a bolt on is too much camp though. Mind you, Fender managed to sell the £15,000 Lynott P bass - but that came with a studded wrist band!!

Oh come on! The actual cost of the parts of that guitar will be less than $500 to John Cruz. Construction of a strat body and neck is extremely simple for anyone with a modicum of woodworking skills. The fretwork and setup is a doddle for any experienced tech. The relicing isn’t rocket science either. You’re paying $1000 for the guitar and $7000 for the name on the headstock.
He’s hardly the first to do this and won’t be the last but as long as people want to spend money on guitars like that good luck to him.
