Have been looking through posts and updating the google sheet again, and we seem to be lacking vox on these (seconded) tracks (apologies for any errors):

    Detroit Rock City
    Richard III
    Rock of Ages
Is She Really Going Out With Him
    That's Entertainment

    Any volunteers?

Im awaiting the final cut down song list before i sign up for any vocals as I dont want to end up committing to too many songs.
I suggest you publish the final song list (which can be updated later if needed) and ask for people to start signing up for the songs they are interested in.

Have updated the list of tracks that have been suggested in the first post to clearly show which tracks which have been seconded and those which have not. As some of us are not able to access the google sheet, suggest we keep all the discussion on who wants to play on what here (the google sheet can be updated behind the scenes).

This is the moment to confirm (or reconfirm for some) which tracks you are interested in being part of the house band for, and the band role(s) you would like to take for each track (remembering that popular tracks will be performed more than once, so please just step forward and don't be put off if someone puts their hand up for the role you would like before you do).

Well, put me down for main guitar on my two (Rock of Ages and Richard III).  And I can take a guitar part on Hard to Handle and Talk Dirty to Me.

As responses come through, please bear in mind that we are looking to fill all "band" roles for each track so we can build a set-list for the live room - so taking Rock of Ages and Richard III as examples, do we have any volunteers for vox, bass and drums?

I'd like to second the choices of Every Little Thing She Does, China Girl, and London Calling. And I'll also volunteer to play bass on all three.

I'd also be happy to play bass on Keep Your Hands to Yourself, Rocks (again!), Rebel Rebel, and Is She Really Going Out With Him, if nobody else is chomping at the bit to take these on.

This event is in 9 weeks, given the lack of interest in getting the final song list together and people signing up to play on them, is it likely to be going ahead?

    I am part of the problem. Factors in my indecision include;

    1) uncertainty over whether changes in COVID case rates will bring new social distancing and/or travel restrictions from the UK Government and/or Welsh Assembly.

    2) a five hour round trip to, possibly, play on a handful of songs.

    3) not knowing most of the nominated songs on the list. (To the extent of never having heard the majority of them.) My musical tastes are somewhat at variance to the majority.

    4) lacking much inclination to even find audio copies of those songs, let alone attempt to learn how to play them.

    5) appreciating that others may be similarly disinclined to learn any song suggestions of mine.

    6) observing the lack of communications traffic in this thread. (Activity should be accelerating not grinding to a halt.)

    7) family stuff.

Some of the items listed above are entirely my own responsibility. Things are unlikely to improve unless I give myself a firm kick up the arse. I am unlikely to apply much effort to learning songs on the list unless I see evidence that other subscribers are also working towards the shared goal.
    Be seeing you.

Ive just realised that this thread isnt showing on my "Discussions" feed anymore (even though Im not hiding the Events sub-category) - maybe people arent seeing these posts if they arent subscribed to the thread? Is anyone else getting this show up in their "recent Discussions" feed?

It shows up in my feed. But I'm often slow to respond to stuff...

I have already started learning a bunch of the songs, but I don't think anybody wants to hear a bass solo version ...

I'm still up for it. I guess the recent spike in cases has probably raised some concerns. Its still almost 9 weeks away so for some there wont be much sense of urgency to get anything sorted just yet.

    Yup, still up for this.

Also spoke to @onlyonebradders the other day, who is also still in, but would really like to know the final setlist so he can start looking at the songs.  Also, there was a possibilty that @octatonic was going to lend a hand on drums also, which I know he'll appreciate.

Right. Butt kicked. Put me down for bass guitar on I Wish and Just What I Needed. (The latter begins on E.)

Next step, I have to nominate two songs.

Seven members have now recommitted to this event, so we just need a few more to make this event viable. Could those who are definitely out please kindly confirm that, so we know for sure where we are.

Ok chaps. As suspected, this is looking increasingly unlikely for me I'm afraid.

I've got barely any time off even over the summer holidays and will definitely be trying to have a full rest week before hitting the busy autumn and winter season in schools.

There's a very slim chance I might be available at short notice, in which case I might rock up, sling you some money and have a jam in the second room...but it's extremely unlikely.

Also, just by way of feedback, and echoing other comments, I'm not hugely inspired by a lot of the songs being outliers/ niche personal favourites.

In my experience of running many of these jams, they tend to work better if the songs are generally quite well known.

That's absolutely not a criticism, just an observation that it could also be putting others off.

I think I agree with Legion, whilst I have proposed a couple of my faves I appreciate they may not be for everyone, so song choice is a difficult one, I think maybe we need to stay very mainstream?

@spark240 I think for me, if I have to jump on YouTube/ Spotify and listen to a song 20 or 30 times for familiarisation before I can even think about learning it, that's quite off putting.

At least with well known songs, you'll have an idea of what it should sound like before you start breaking it down.

yeah you're totally right. I for one always pick stuff I like with the hope it's relatively well known, but outside of a particular niche it really isn't. I know that, and yet I still do it. It could have been worse, it could have been Winger.

So we can scrub Get the Funk Out and Hot For Teacher off the list - replace with You Really Got Me (Kinks/Van Halen, 5 chords, nice and easy and we did it last time) plus Johnny B Goode  =) Those should be ok for people just to turn up and play I hope, with little/no prep?

There are no end of three- and four-chord tricks that can be knocked into reasonable shape in under half an hour. Stooges, Pistols, Stones, Dylan, that sort of thing.

have a jam in the second room
This is more where my head is at.

I would be happier plonking away at unrehearsed noises and/or helping people with running repairs or set-ups.

I am not criticising the song choices either. What I am doing is admitting that I am too lazy to learn and practice some of them into presentable shape.

Some times, the music in a song is very simple but the feel needs to be right. I do not want to disappoint other participants by ruining their song choices.
    Be seeing you.
