I got my results for second year through today.

Particularly pleased with 95% in music theory.

Also I'm listening to the nearly-finished mixes of my band's EP which comes out next week. It sounds great!
Nice one Connor :) Are you headed for a First?

I have no idea, my exam results are all over the fucking shop. Some are good, some are terrible. The last year has been very trying.

@Bucket what other subjects have you done exams in?

    Keyboards, which went pretty dreadfully.
Did well in harmony + theory obviously, but really badly in aural + transcribing.
Reading, techniques and styles which went pretty well this time, but not in the first semester.
Submitted coursework for theory, music business, arranging, composing and another two broadly arranging-based classes.

@Bucket shame you didn't do so well at keys. Was it not knowing your way around the instrument, or was it a technical thing like using the "wrong" fingers? My mum says I use "all the wrong fingers" at the piano, but she's happily surprised that I can get a tune out of one. It's a good instrument to be able to get a tune out of. I've written more tunes at the piano than ever I did with a guitar on my lap.

I'm not so good at aural & transcribing. I'm sure I could get better with practice.

Good luck with filling in the gaps, and for next year. Get the ticket, get gigging/teaching/arranging/sessioning etc and wave a solitary middle finger knuckle-side-out to Waitrose. You won't be needing them after that :)

@Phil_aka_Pip It really was not knowing my way round. Fucked it up royally. Still passed though.

Anyway, a happy thing - I'm planning a new neck for my Strat. Excited!

(thinking about an aged maple neck on a Candy Green body with a mint green guard, am I mad?)

You have a different definition of "fucked it up royally" than me if you passed despite it!

Good work; do not be too hard on yourself. You're clearly quite good at this music lark, and you know what to concentrate on. :)

Excellent stuff, @Bucket - good work indeed.

The green strat sounds pretty neat, too - I once sprayed an old Aria II "The Cat" with a Ford metallic green spray-can, and it looked great (although it was a rosewood board).

Passed the keys module overall, in spite of failing that particular exam. Got through on the strength of some performance coursework which went quite well.

And @Nitefly I've decided to stick with the rosewood board too, and I've also used car colours before - the fabulous British Leyland shade Tara Green now adorns my Dean Baby ML :D

There is a slim chance that our work van driver will be listening to Classic Fm this week.

Mostly as I've changed all his pre-sets to this.

I can foresee him having a copy of "Reign in blood" at some point this week.

    Mwahahaha.

Went to a grading for judo today.  Told the very high level people in charge what was up with me, and they basically forbade me from doing anything.  Then they awarded me with a brown belt.  Which was nice.

I had a very good cello lesson. Mostly in tune, mostly in time, and some good work on second position.

Turns out if you do more practice during the week you get further between lessons. Who knew?

I'm no longer going to China (flights were going to be £3k for the time I had to go) but Mrs Oct has decided she wants to get her motorcycle license and come riding with me.

    This is even better.
Her CBT is booked and she has a shiny new helmet (no jokes).

Exactly 10 years after my last finals paper, I paid off my student loan yesterday :D

2 months' car payments then I'll be debt free. Granted, I don't have a house yet, but it's still a good feeling!

Went into the local charity shop yesterday. Next to an ancient Fuji digital camera, with a Windows ME operating disc priced at a bargain £20, was a pair of Rodenstock sunglasses. Snagged them for £8 :)

After years of using Spotify and just casually sticking a star against any song which I think is really good, then forgetting all about it, I discovered this evening a folder called "Starred" -- and there they all are.  It is exactly like listening to the most divergent and amazing compilation album of all the kinds of music which I love.  I am really pleased it has taken me this long to find it.
    Best compilation album ever!

Meh, postponed. Potentially happening on Friday now.

I dunno, it doesn't seem to me like she's super interested but who knows. Worth a punt isn't it.

@jd0272 I'm intrigued - what do you mean by that?

Closest I've got is having dropped playing bass into the conversation - that seemed to do more for her than guitar, oddly. She said "That makes me fancy you more" :D I mean I don't think she's totally uninterested but she takes ages to reply and so on.
