Also, change reverb voices to 2.

Quick question regarding CPU limits. I am running a 'do it all' patch which is currently 72%. When I switch from Amp/Cab X to amp/Cab Y I get an error warning that the reverb has been disengaged to save CPU. Any way around this?
don't do absolutely everything in a single preset..
    you have 384 presets available
    split the functionality..
build a 'core preset' that'll cover most songs you play..
for the odd song it can't address, make a copy of it, take out what you don't need and add it what you do..
that way you change presets between songs and not mid-song
and there's no need to dial back the quality
play every note as if it were your first

You're right, I need to get my head around the modes to make it work.

Can you share the patch that you're getting this with? Maybe a screenshot of the Ax8-Edit Screen?

I've never got that CPU spike from amp switches, are both cab blocks similar?

Anyone else tried Leon Todd's 80's presets? I'm using the JMP Marshall one for a few 80's power-rock ballads I'm playing with the band (If I Could Turn Back Time and Heaven is a Place on Earth), and with the chorus on it sounds immense!

I think Leon is amazing, I've recreated his Petrucci sound he showed how to build on his Youtube channel - just amazing and really helped me understand the Mark II

On another note - because of Leon I've switched to running delay and reverb in parallel, sounds a little cleaner - but also opens up some fun stuff, for example last night tried adding chorus in the delay lane, so basically I'm chorusing the repeats only but the dry sound is clean.

    Sounds great!

I found that when I add the chorus on the wet path, it's not noticeable :(

I'm assuming 'wet path' means that it is in parallel
if so, make sure that the chorus is mix control is set to 100% because in this configuration, you control the strength of the chorus effect using the level  control
play every note as if it were your first

Hey guys - anyone know if it's possible to assign scenes to external footswitches...? I can't work out a simple way to do it :(

    In the Axe-FX
    scenes use a MIDI CC 34 plus value 0 = scene 1, value 1 = scene 2 etc
you need to assign MIDI CC 34 and the value for each scene to each switch
if your floor controller can take 4 external switches, then you could assign each of them to a scene

I don't know about the MIDI CC used by the AX-8.. it'll be in the manual

play every note as if it were your first

Anyone else tried the Impulses for Destruction pack from ML-Labs? Interested in your thoughts.... I'm not overly impressed so far with them TBH.

AX8. 9.03 For AxeFX has been out for a week or so.

How much of a challenge depends on what version you’re upgrading from, and whether the new features affect your sound. In going from 8.x to 9.02 (or 9.03) the key change is speaker compression. Some people find this adds clarity. Some find it thins out their sound. I find that it allows me to get more clarity for the same level of amp drive. It’s an adjustable parameter, so you can turn it off.

Did first gig with Ax8 tonight. Had 3 patches planned with clean + pedals and OD tones. The pedal ODs sounded great but the OD Amps sounded pants. Can't seem to nail a great OD amp sound...currently using FAS lead 1 and Mk 2c+. Any recommendations for a generic high gain sound to try?
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom · Share on Twitter
  • That surprises me, high gain is where it excells IMO. Have you looked at some of Leon Todd’s patches? That may be a good place to start.

I’m getting great mileage out of the JCM800, JVM and Mark IV amps. Another vote for watching Leon’s videos.

Also - maybe think about the Naked Amps pack?

is it a problem of over compression? I think that’s easy to do with all modellers
