makes sense to me - you can kill off the price gouging on ebay by letting people go direct. I suspect its a tiny fraction of people willing to do that anyway - so its not a big earner.
    Karma......

I still think it is bizarre.
i can’t imagine any other company doing that

  • Someone’s going to try and make some money on a waitlist... why not the company instead of some speculators on eBay.

They should’ve offered it from the start though, this is a bit bizarre doing it after people have been on the waitlist for a while already.

People will judge them for it and fair enough. It’s fairly logical from a short term view standpoint. Long term it may well tar their image or maybe people will forget about it in a month or two when supply is greater.

  • In the interests of transparency and free speech, they deleted the thread about it over on the Fractal forum. They really can't take a bashing, can they.

But they are a professional company, I’m not a fan of EBay profiteers. I don’t think Fractal should be in such a hurry to join them.
its bizarre behaviour to my mind.
Can you imagine Boss or line 6 or even Kemper doing this? Just part of Cliffs ‘uniqueness’ I guess :)

  • It’s a physical product, I couldn’t name another company who has, but professional service providers do this kind of thing. See some mix/mastering engineers who have rush rates for people who can’t wait for their usual turnaround time.

If it was me I wouldn’t have chosen to do it, it’s a small amount of money for a potential amount of brand image damage.

they really do have some odd business practices
Keep meaning to try some of the Fractal gear, but stuff like this really puts me off.  I assume they throw in some extra stuff as well for the $1000?
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom · Share on Twitter
  • Don't let it put you off. It's tasteless, IMO, but it doesn't take away from what an incredible product they have.

No, nothing extra for your money.

  • $1000 to jump the queue is an absolute joke and anyone defending it has to have their head seen to
0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 1reaction image Wisdom · Share on Twitter
  • No one can defend it or say anything bad about it because they've deleted, and thus cencored, the thread complaining about it. That's the bit that gets me.

It’s nonsense. It’s not like it’s one bloke hand soldering nos transistors into a mojo circuit. One at a time.

for all anyone knows, they’ve got 10000 sat in a warehouse ready to go

any criticism of it renders the stock replies:

Can’t you just enjoy the sound,
does it matter? cliffs a genius.

ask where it’s made and no one gives a straight answer. Just abuse and vague claims of USA USA
ask why it’s so expensive and get told, If you can’t afford it leave the forum and buy a pod you pleb.

It’s just weird and no one else would get away with it.

If people want to pay it then let them.

I never saw the thread, but I can imagine it didn’t go down well.

Ultimately it seems an action that’ll cost them significantly more hassle than it’ll earn them in a few extra higher profit unit sales. Didn’t seem worth it to me.

I like it. It reinforces the image of Fractal being a stubborn obstinate company who do things their way, a bit like Rickenbacker and their maniacal trademark protection with regard to clones on Ebay. As quirky as both companies are, you don't tend to hear complaints about the quality of their products, yes?

    Has anyone tried buying presets?
While I have some free time this week I’m looking at the sounds I use and tempted to try one of the packs from Glenn Delaune - any reviews?

Austin buddy - Naked Amps best purchase ever.

Moke -signature (sounds from a song) , er not so much.

Glenn -on a Helix, good but a funny way of getting sounds for me which I couldn’t learn from

    I thought FAS did answer..
chassis and minor boards made in China
final assembly, major boards and firmware installed and tested in the USA

Yep. I didn't really make myself clear there.

I have no problem with the product, or where its made. I'd love to have one

I have no problem with the price, they can charge what they want and what people are willing to pay.

Presumably they worked out the profit margin before releasing the price.

That is why the extra charge has made people question its morality or reason.

I would check their own thread to see the reasons for the £1000 but apparently its deleted.

It's an intelligent move in my opinion.

With the Axe II a lot of that first run went on eBay for $3500. I recall a lot of sellers were also making it look like it was an officially sold unit with warranty, but there is no warranty unless you buy from Fractal.

Who is going to do that now? $3500 from some guy on eBay with no warranty, or the same price direct from Fractal with warranty?
They probably don't even expect to sell any. It's just a measure to stop scalpers.

  • Bloody typical, I bought the Naked Amp pack on Tuesday night and have had to work late last night and tonight. Can't wait to load them up.....
    @firepaulmusic @peteri ;

Did you get the 9.02 pack and are you running it on firmware 9.04?

Quick update from my post last week asking about commercial presets - I ordered the Glen Delaune pack at the weekend.
Cheap enough at £12.50 to have a look at.   Although some of the sounds don’t do a lot for me there are some decent ones and I really like the way he sets them out - with mostly 3 scene and a ctrl switch to make any of those a lead with boost and delay.    I’ll have to tweak them but I’m impressed enough that I’ll get his other pack.

Had a play with my rock presets the other day and found that having the Boost on all the time made a great difference to how I like them to sound.

Been a bit quiet in here...!

Quantum 10.1 available on AFX III and II now - AX8 hopefully this week. Adds more amps, and the reports in so far are that it's a brilliant firmware.
