I'd probably be interested @Alnico but I feel like between singing, playing and looking after the recording, I'll be very hard to fit in.

I suppose I could just book you for a 1:1 sometime up north though, so less of an issue. It's a good excuse to come and see you or have you and the lovely Audrey round :)
    I can mind the DAW @Legionreturns ;

Let's keep this workshop idea open until Friday next week.
Today is 4 weeks until the event.
With 3 weeks left next weekend that's enough time for organisers to work with one plan or the other.

It's no great shakes if we don't do it this time. It can be done independently in the near future, which going by some private chats I've had, does seem like a better idea but let's see where this goes.

Friday 17th closing the list for the workshop and we can see what's going to happen from that.

Perhaps, I ought to make the effort to give that a listen? Unfortunately, I do not subscribe to Spotify and, hence, can only access a thirty second clip. Anyone got a copy on phonograph cylinder?

I can play bass on that if it helps. Although I’ll happily step back and let somebody else take the job if they’d prefer - I feel like I’m already playing on quite a lot.

As we have two rhythm guitarists for All Right Now I will move myself to Line Up #2. This creates an opportunity for anyone not in Line Up #1 to step up and take the other band roles - who anyone like to join me in Line Up #2?

So long as it does not screw up whatever is already in hand, I would like to take this opportunity to learn how well my Matchless 15w Lightning Combo holds up in a band setting at gig volumes, and also to understand how it sounds when others are playing through it. Hoping that the Matchless can be incorporated into the amp line-up in the live room, but understand that this may not be possible/optimal.

It'll sound great, and given that we'll need to mic guitar amps for recording purposes, as long as the PA is decent we can add it into the mix.

I use a 15w valve combo with my band, and micing is pretty much a requirement if you want your sweet spot sound to be heard at gig volume.

One thing we don't want to be doing is moving mics around between songs, so I'd say if you want it in the backline, it needs to be one of the ones we use all day.

I've just picked up the 74 pro reverb from the classifieds (oops haha). Also got a deluxe reverb and a 2204 clone + 2x12 cab. Happy to contribute any/all of these

Anyone got a music stand for lyrics? I've lost mine. I can print a load off

    EVENT DAY PARKING

The parking outside Factory Studios appears to be a combination of off-street (along one side of their building) and on-street, (adjacent to a wall, with no pavement). The former carries the risk of being boxed in by later arrivals. The latter may hinder your unloading.

    SKILLS WORKSHOP/S

It has been decided that the workshops will be taken out of the jam-day environment and run as a separate event. It was clear that the focus of the jam was different to the focus requirement for a learning session, and I thank Alnico for his efforts and patience in opening up the workshops in the first instance.

I hope folk can see the positives and can fully concentrate on the Jam Day as an opportunity to play some songs in the company of likeminded souls.

Looking forward to the day, where
"We could jam in Joe's Garage
    His mama was screamin'
    His dad was mad
We was playin' the same old song
In the afternoon 'n' sometimes we would
    Play it all night long
It was all we knew, 'n' easy too
So we wouldn't get it wrong
All we did was bend the string like..."

Out of interest, why was the target number of 5 attendees viable and only having 4 sign up not?

It *could* work with 5 people, just about, but it's better and more worthwhile with a few more.
    That's not the biggest issue.

I want to deliver something in more depth than being at a Jam Session will allow, something better attended and more worthwhile in an atmosphere that isn't centred around performing and the excitement/nerves that go with that.

It's been very difficult to pare this down to something that will fit in and around the jam itself and also, upon discussion behind the scenes, it's transpired that it's probably not going to be the most conducive atmosphere for learning. The excitement and nerves of the jam aren't what the workshops are about.

It's supposed to last for most of a day, focussing on different aspects and including some interactive stuff like backing tracks and other enjoyable and informative stuff.
To pare it down to an hour or less is going to skim over things so much as to be almost useless, in my mind it's that way anyway.

So I made the decision to run this as a 1 day thing, at a studio which we know with a central location (Probably Quad - TBC) and make sure I deliver something that will be of use, that people will enjoy and has it's own relaxed space for focus and learning.
When people arrive the whole theme of the day is to relax and feel comfortable. There's little or no "Performing" to worry about and there's regular breaks for people to chat and socialise.
It's not all listening, it's not all playing and it's not all mind numbing theory, far from it.

I'll work out some details and post a chat thread about it soon, after which I'll work with what we've got and book something.

    How does that sound?

Sad to say I'm out, life getting in the way of having a good time etc.  Apologies to all if I mess anything up.

@Brocco please put my payment in the pot towards making this happen.  And thanks for putting this together.

Sounds good, but it might be worth starting with a few smaller sessions and building up in case it turns into a monster commitment that becomes too difficult to make it ever happen. If it goes ahead at Quad I'd be interested.

It’s something I’ve done a fair amount of which I’ve tweaked over the years.
The whole point I was making was that it needs time, not shorter or smaller sessions.
Regular breaks throughout the day are important just as much as time for people to understand and attempt to play what we’re learning. With the day on hand it makes for little or no stress and plenty of mental space for people to ask questions and have time to understand.

Quad is almost certainly the favourite place to start looking at so I will.
