Backline
Given the quick turnaround times and slot lengths (10 mins) for each song (!) we need to minimise setup and backline changes. So..
- Drums - won't change
- Keys - won't change
- Bass - I will bring Helix/Head/Cab, @Slacker - you can use mine or your own if you prefer - I presume you will want to use your own bass, but I suggest we set them up and leave them. @TTony - you get a choice of either, or house rig, and of course, I will bring a bass you can use (and practise on if you want!)
- Guitars - I suggest that Amps are ready to go in the song before you are on, at the front, and just need moving and plugging in. Ideally, plug in and set up in the nearest break and then you're ready to go. Bring your boards (if you have one) and have them ready to go in the song before you are on so all you need to do is plug them in.
- There will be a DI cable for Acoustics set up
General logistics for smooth flow
- Tune up before your song - so you don't waste time tuning!
- Make sure you are in the room, ready to go, set up with all your gear (inc guitar out the case!) in the song before yours
- At the start of the song, we will have a quick chat about structure, starting etc. then straight in to it!
- Make sure you get your bits together speedily after your song ready for the next one!
Etiquette
- In the main room, please be quiet during songs. Try to keep talking to a minimum to allow the players the best chance of a good go at it
- No playing in the main room when songs are being performed at all please
- In the second room it may be a bit chaotic, but that's ok - you can make noise as you like there (!)
- Raucous applause, encouragement, joining in singing etc. is encouraged
- Please do stay for songs if you can - it's great for those playing to get a feel for what an "audience" is like - but only if you aren't doing something else!
- Recording is only allowed if all players agree - if you want to record, ask before the song starts
- Unless you're asked for a critique, try to keep comments post performance positive - we really do want beginners to go away encouraged and buzzing (I am however more than happy for everyone to tell me my bass playing is crap - It's nothing I haven't heard a thousand times )
Most of all though, this is supposed to be a fun day. Don't feel pressured into anything. Don't worry, and don't panic.
Me, @Alnico, and the modmins will be around to ask questions of, help, advise, and all that sort of good stuff.
Anyone who's singing is welcome to use my voicelive, and I'll probably leave it setup all day. I'm currently assuming we'll want 2 patches bit if anyone wants anything different let me know. Each patch can have two settings: An always on set of effects, and a "hit" button set of effects.
Eg patch one:
On- Reverb, Natural Tune Assist
Hit Button- Doubler + Harmonies
If you're singing you can hit either the pedal or the button on the mic to toggle the hit effects.
If anyone wants anything specific set as a patch it's pretty simple for me to save it under the song name so just let me know. Otherwise I'll likely just stick with the above and another patch with Doubling always on for anyone who's not confident their voice is strong enough.

Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after youBecause of timings and how crowded the schedule is, can I suggest that by default 3 willing volunteers set up their amps for the duration of the Jam as our "backline".
People can then just bring guitar/lead/board up to the front to play, unless you have a specific desire to use your amp - in which case do say now so I can plan it in.
This means we can balance the backline before starting - note if you use your own amp there is no guarantee we will be able to balance levels properly.
3 volunteers to provide the backline?
IIRC, last time we were there, they did have a couple of hire rooms amps plugged in and ready to go too. One was an old Marshall stack, can't remember what the other one was. Given that the purpose of this meet-up is to play stuff, it's probably more important to have an amp that works than to worry too much about the subtleties of its tonal characteristics?
If there's house amps then we can use them, otherwise I need a few volunteers

Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after youBass wise I'm less fussy and will plug into anything @Bridgehouse if I can borrow your mex P I'll bring my EUB so people can try it.
Once again if anyone is short of songs and wants to do some I'll give away Mustang Sally and Midnight Hour to a good cause. Also if anyone wants some bass songs I'm happy to give up Beat it Plug In Baby and Shake a Tail Feather. I'll play them all but dont want to hog things.
That'll look excellent.
Hello!
If anyone who is going to the jam would be interested in having this...
...Hercules Acoustic stand, let me know and ill bring it along. Im not asking any money for it. I bought it about a year ago by mistake, and never got round to doing anything about it. Its brand new (I just don't have the box im afraid). Grab yourself a Freebie in Leicester...
...sounds rude.
Cheers
Nick

Just because you're paranoid, don't mean they're not after youSOLD! Its yours
There were only a couple of VW vans and some cars, about 20, belonging to people that work in the units who, I am told leave around 17.30 on weekdays and do not all work at the weekend. The carpark was by no means full today when I was there.
The studio has 12 allocated spaces in the carpark shown below (directly opposite the entrance to the studio via roller shutter behind me when I took the picture) and they are along the wall on the RHS of the carpark. It isn't very clear, but there is space for another row of cars along the high wall on the LHS.
The studio rooms that have been booked look great BTW
Thanks, that's a really great effort.
