The problem with listening to it on Talksport is that you have to put up with Mark Nicholas and KP.
I disagree, I think largely the coverage on TS is pretty good.  Ok, not everyone is great but Gough and Harmison in particular are excellent.

Mark Nicholas is on Sky as well, he's difficult to escape it seems.

I like Butcher, and Gough and Harmison are good, but Nicholas makes me want to pay for a NowTV pass so I can put up with Nasser on Sky.

It's really delayed. Some of the commentary on the Cricinfo ball by ball seems to be coming up around 2 minutes before Talksport.

For this series Nicholas is one of the main commentators on Sky.

At least I can't see his smug face on the radio.

Why on earth have SKy dropped Gower to bring in Nicholas?

As I write that, Bairstow bowled yet again.

Mark Nicholas is the nearest thing cricket has to Gloria Hunniford, incapable of making a simple statement without there being some sort of media-trained intonation.

I like Harmy, he always strikes me as being very genuine. And we have the bonus of Neil Manthorp, one of the best overseas commentators.

No commentary via the BBC web site or R5 Sports - Is the commentary now moved for some reason - Okay when at home as I have Sky to watch

Talksport outbid BBC for the rights.  Hence the conversation about having Mark Nicholas inflicted on us.

In an ever-changing world it's both reassuringly and depressingly familiar that our test match batting, especially overseas, remains utter shite.

181 all out, last seven wickets falling for less than 40.

Thought that might be the case - Is this just for overseas matches or all test matches etc

    Trying to analyse this

Is it the only difference was De Kock and his 95

Or SA bowlers did a better job than ours

If the former, then why can't we counter attack - Jos Butler or Bairstow should have taken it on in a similar way

England's highest opening partnership since 2016 - haven't reached a hundred yet.  Says a lot.

Edit:  not going to reach 100.  Sibley got out while I was writing that.

I have to admit that I expected us to be four or five down at close of play today. We now need about 250 with nine wickets in hand. Hopefully the sick parade will be down to nil tomorrow.

It could get very interesting, but I'll be surprised if we get within 100 of the target.

I'm with you on the first part - Not sure about the 100 - Bat another 80 overs and it will be very interesting - Might need Jack Leach in there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SA had their reserve wicketkeeper fielding at short leg. Hmmm...

It used to be the case that substitute fielders couldn't field close in.

Seems small fry when the umpires didn't take out a bowler who delivered two balls over waist height...

Great test match though, really pleased with the 2nd innings fight back even if the test match was lost.  Early days but the opening partnership of Sibley and Burns had some things to be excited about.

Another classy batting performance, making the case for four-day tests.

    231-8.  :p

I blame the introduction of DRS for the demise of test cricket.  Its too easy for a batsman to be given out LBW as they have to play at a lot more balls which in turn creates more catching chances.  Then there is the duke ball, which does a lot more for bowlers, but is only used in the UK.  Then there is the condition of the wicket.....

Surprising that test cricket still manages to put on a show........

    : oleaginous

1.rich in, covered with, or producing oil; oily.
"fabrics would quickly become filthy in this oleaginous kingdom"

    2.exaggeratedly and distastefully complimentary; obsequious.
"candidates made oleaginous speeches praising government policies"

I agree - But 11 men who are meant to know how to hit a ball are making it very hard to get excited as well

Not a bad response from England - I was fearing something like a 250-3 response and a big 1st innings deficit - So wrap it up early on Sunday lads and see if we can put a decent 2nd innings together

Slow 'n' steady to day but getting there - Boycott would love this approach - Hope we have enough time left to bowl them out, as and when required - Come on guys and let's see the series move to 1-1
