In all seriousness though, the slow bowling situation needs to be addressed. For the 2019 season, both Rashid and Moeen can comfortably said to be bowling gash (AR is averaging 70 for the 2019 season in ODI cricket, Moeen over 90) and Root's nifty spell today rather shows up the current man being picked.

So I see, 212 should be a breeze...should be, but there's always the good old English collapse never that far away.

What's wrong with Morgan? has he got the squits? bad pint?

    Back spasm.

Cold sponge and Morgan will be fine.

What about Woakes to solve the number 3 problem in the test team.  He couldn't do any worse than Ballance, Vince etc.

If his knees restrict him to 6 or 8 overs a day then not a big issue if he's batting at 3.  With Woakes and Stokes in the top 6, you could take a punt on Archer, Wood, or a second spinner lower down the order.

Very poor stuff from the Windies today, have they reached their peak and are now on the slippery slope downwards?

There are few things more pleasurable on a summer's day than to watch Joe Root batting. It's so elegant.

Yep, job done easily for England, W Indies gave up pretty early on this one.

Windies look a bit one-dimensional really. If their plan A of going hard with the bat and bowling a lot of short stuff doesn't work, they don't seem to have a plan B.

Why so down on Moeen Ali? He's the best finger spinner England have. The fact that he can also bat is a bonus (and a pretty big one when he's in form).

Our pace bowlers were bloody good today though!

Having Chris Gayle in that side is a bit of a joke. Yes he can still give it a biff when he wants to, but his running and fielding is even more atrocious than ever before. He strikes me as someone who won’t do it, rather than can’t do it, and that must cause a lot of strain within the squad.

Jack Leach is the best (finger) spinner we have.

On the evidence of Moeen's batting against Pakistan, Leach would probably be a better batsman too.

There's a key to Moeen's form which hasn't been picked up yet.

More often than not when he has a shaved head he doesn't play well. Maybe it's cranial aerodynamics, maybe it affects his balance. Moeen + barnet = better player.

Roy's hamstring issue worries me - Such issues never repair over night - cold morning and some damp and it can easily go again if it has not had time to 'heal' - Patching him up for the world cup is one thing but IMO he will be or should be in the Ashes team as well - Will no more soon

Australia v Sri Lanka. Sl 179-2 with just over 20 overs to go but being choked for runs, this is the strength of the Aussie bowling, in the middle period, piling the pressure on the batsmen, it's impressive. SL only get 17 runs from last 4 overs. It's not just about wickets.

If Sri Lanka can win this it will really light the WC up and make the race for semi final spots very interesting....got a feeling they won't though. Here's hoping they do!

Can't wait for tomorrows game but the rain will ruin it no doubt

agree about India V Pakistan - looks as though it could be a great game for the neautral's

Was hoping SL would come through against Aus - To be fair to Aus they have had to battle  a few games - None have been a walk in the park

I was hoping yesterday might have been the day India lost - There is a certain arrogance about Kohli I don't like - Fantastic cricketer, no two ways about that - But I'm not so sure he is a nice person - Got that impression after the India tour in 2018 - I don't think the whole team carry this arrogance but IMO Kohli does

Arrogant or not they look hard to beat so far. Their middle period bowling is good too with the 2 spinners tempting batsmen into mistakes.

It was a shame the game wasn't closer yesterday, with the rain delay at the end it kind of just fizzled out.

This week sees the top teams play the lower order teams, is there will be a shock result in among them? England need to nail their 2 matches!

agree about England - Don't want a NR either as 2 points not 1 required - This is a case to be said about a potential NR against India NZ or Aus, as 1 point might be better than 0 - Both next 2 matches and we need 2 wins

I didn't watch all the match yesterday but when India came out to bowl it looked a different pitch/set of conditions etc - Ball was moving of the seam

I've not seen enough yet of NZ

But still going for NZ Aus India + Eng for the semi's

Biggest disappointment, by far is SA

42 pages and I've only just seen this thread! Hopefully there has been plenty of sledging and sandpaper jokes...

Off to see Aus v Eng on Tuesday if anyone else is going?

Yep, England keeping Sri Lanka contained nicely, should be easy enough total to chase by the time SL are all out.
