    I went to my usual shop to buy beer today. The owners are Gujarati.
    Today the men were out and one on their wives served me.
    I asked her if she was going to watch the moon landing, she said no, not really.
    They are always on their phones in that shop, watching bollywood films or facetiming.

    I enjoyed the button moon and clangers clips so thanks for that.

    They went from being one of the poorest nations on the planet at independance to the fifth largest economy and a space power in 75 years.

     The Chandrayaan-3 mission cost $75 million - a fraction of comparable missions. ISRO has an annual budget 1/25 the size of NASAs.

    What they're going to find out about water ice at the moon's south pole will benefit all of us in years to come.

    Do you think this is anything other than a socially or politically motivated stunt? 

    There is fuck all reason, in practical terms, given the cost and effort, to land a little craft on the moon. If the kings of Capitalism have given up on it, it's for good reason.

    I think the best way to judge a society is how they treat the poorest and most unfortunate and on that basis India unfortunately don't get a tip off the hat from me for sending up a U$75 million rocket when so many people are starving
