So a bit late to my annual sit down for a week end. Nevertheless here we go. Enjoyed a bit of a warmer upper from the Courteeners. Now really enjoying Texas - not least I used to cover many of these tunes but also a fucking lovely lime green gretsch!

That gretsch was lovely and Texas were great. Saw the good witch whoever that is and her guitarist had a pretty cool duesenberg

    Had to switch off
used to like the artic monkeys but not listened to a lot of their newer stuff
Alex Turner now looks like Richard Hammond trying to do an elvis impersonation

i was watching chvrches set earlier which was great (am a huge chvrches fan i must admit). i wish they would have played warning call as i think it is one of their best songs (one of my fav songs by anyone i must admit) but they have never played it live as far as i know (due to it being on mirror's edge catalyst game/maybe ea own the copyright to it which sucks. but their set was great.

warning call for anyone who hasn't heard it.

also watched royal blood set which i liked also, and am now watching fever ray and liking it (haven't heard of them before). the keyboard player has a cloud hat on her head with lights for one thing  :-D

Well well well. The Churn ups were great. Amazingly their rhythm guitarist was a ringer for Pat Smear from the Foo Fighters. But it can’t have been him because he was playing lots of gibbons and fender strats.

Currently no TV as moving house today/tomorrow, and jealous of every last one of you watching.

Artic Monkeys, Comet is Coming,.... worth it alone.

  • Comet is Coming has been the most interesting watch out of all the stuff I’ve seen so far. Also had to turn off the Arctic monkeys.

Arctic Monkeys have the talent but it felt very pedestrian. Where was the energy and entertainment?
Maybe it had something to do with the dark stage. Or their first song choice. Or Alex's preening and posing. Whatever, it just didn't work for me.

I'm not a Texas fan but thought they played a great set.
Sparks were fab from what little I saw of their set! Russell is 74 FFS!

Sitting watching the lightening seeds set. Ian’s voice seems to have dropped a fair few semitones over the last 25 years. Saved by the quality of the songs.

Nowt wrong with that. Best British songwriter since Weller, and he’s successfully made many direction changes. I wasn’t much of a fan of the Artic monkeys until Tranquility base hotel and casino record which is in top 5 all time records to me. Utterly perfect. Turner is a character who’s not lived in Sheffield since 2006. Baffling some people still think he should be a skinny 18 year old with a bowl cut.

It's a worrying sign if the Lightning Seeds are the highlight of a festival.

Yeah, it’s a bit of a shame with the Arctic Monkeys… I saw them on their first tour and the punk energy was awesome, and while I don’t expect that to last their entire career, the whole image and posturing thing has taken over the music now… He was one of the great poets of modern day music, it’s just a bit of a shambles now. We can maybe blame Josh Homme? They started hanging out with him and whilst some the initial music was amazing (AM was a phenomenal album imo) that is where they also started trying to be as ‘cool’ as him, which was never going to happen really… Still reckon they will produce another incredible record at some point, as he is just so talented.

Can't believe I missed The Damned, Sparks or the Lightning Seeds yesterday. Anyway, if I was there I'd take a walk to see these below. Whoever put Fatboy Slim and Guns and Roses on at the same time needs a talking to.

Anyway, Rick's about to start, altogether now, 'Never Gonna...'

    Saturday

Rick Astley - 12pm Pyramid Stage
Badly Drawn Boy - 4pm Acoustic Stage
Manic Street Preachers - 6.45pm Other Stage
Fatboy Slim - 11pm Park Stage // Guns and Roses 9.30pm Pyramid

    Sunday
    Cat Stevens - 3.15 Pyramid
    Toyah - 4.10pm Acoustic
    Blondie - 5pm Pyramid
    Bootleg Beatles - 6.30pm Acoustic
    Candi Staton - 8pm West Holts//Gilbert O' Sullivan - 8pm Acoustic
    Elton John - 9pm Pyramid
    Neville Staples - 10.50pm Avalon

I thought I'd have a quick look, out of curiosity, and ended up watching the whole set. Great stuff.

Just watching Lightning Seeds. I had forgotten how many hit songs they had, and how many hooks, not to mention his son Riley on rhythm guitar…. As in Life of Riley

Nice one. Just found it on iplayer. I've always liked them, thought they were underrated as a band, probably just missed out on that one killer tune (not counting It's Coming Home). Their greatest hits album is one of the better greatest hits albums out there.
