  • Central London: I recommend Frank at JPF Amps. He's worked on a couple of my vintage amps. Reliable, quick turnaround and reasonablely priced.

That was back in June but good to know @Shane if you are still popping by here. I wonder if you do the repairs for TR studios?
I’ll handle this Violet, you take your three hour break.

I know he's mentioned above, but I'd like to put in another word for Martin Whelan (http://www.mjwamps.com/) as an amp repairer (as well as a builder). Martin is in Derbyshire, but that's in range of much of the North of England (I'm in Preston and had him fix my amp by planning it as a day out).

He fixed up my old Marshall JMP beautifully and was the epitome of helpfulness and expertise from initial enquiry to completion. Very fair pricing too.

Just collected my amp from Dan at www.laluna.co.uk based in the Glossop area on the Manchester / Derbyshire border.

Great service, very reasonable prices and happy to take work on despite it being quite a small job.

Very happy with the work he's done.

Oxfordshire: I highly recommend Dave Smart of http://smartguitars.co.uk. Dave has done a number of amp repairs for me now and his service and knowledge are top notch. I live in Surrey nowadays but still take my amps up to Oxford when I need some work done.

That's really good to know.  Been looking for a reliable amp tech in the Norwich area ever since a bad experience with an amp guy round these parts who let me down big time.

Another recommendation for @martinw at MJW Amps.

I took a couple of amps over to him on Monday...very patient, very informative...also went beyond with some email follow-up that I sent him afterwards. He addressed the issues I wanted looking at and also fixed a noise issue that I had accepted as normal (which was worth the trip alone)!

    Thanks Martin! ;)

  • Just want to give a heads up about John Rigg in Kent http://jrigg.co.uk/

Went to see him today with my Hiwatt, really nice guy, told me the amp was fine, showed me some of the readouts on teh scope. He is self taught but I suspect a very clever guy. Anyway, if you need an amplifier looking at in Kent he is your man.

+1 on Paul Huish. He just sorted my Marshall good and proper. He's an excellent technician and great to deal with. Pride in his work.

I am not young enough to know everything

@Bluetonic73 did you have any joy? For valve stuff if always try Tipton Amps ( I presume he's still going) or MAJ Electronics.

John Griffin at g-tek in Chiswick (now Shepherd's Bush) London has done a lot of work for me on Burmans, Boogies and Trace Elliot stuff.  He's even made some bespoke things for me. Can't recommend him enough.

Plus 1 for Brian Swatton in Peterborough, who serviced my Burman pro501.

And another plus 1 for Martin at MJW in Chapel-le-Frith, who repaired my Burman GX3 preamp.  Really wish he wasn't moving north, I have more work lined up when I'm back in the U.K.

(Gosh, I've jumped about quite a bit...)

    [This space for rent]
