Excellent detective work, @DLM , thank you!

I just about remember the Rough Justice chap - I think it was about the time I joined the original Guitarist forum, and yes, it was very entertaining.

And again, @strumjoughlamps , best wishes - I hope you find an effective treatment.

That's crap news @strumjoughlamps ;;, hope you get all the support you can and as said before it doesn't change who you are. All the best.

As for Jough Rustice I seem to remember you recording a song?

I loved the original guitarist forum, so many laughs. Blimey, that was nearly 20 years ago.

@DLM -- wow!  Dom, I can't even remember what I had for breakfast!  That all sounds right but I'd never have been able to remember it.  Well done that man!

  • Hospital appointment today. Been put on Co-careldopa. Specialist a tad concerned at the speed of my symptoms but said meds should help.

    Oooof!

Not sure what else I can say, and I’m rubbish at this kind of thing, except I’m really sorry to hear about this. All the best from the old Chillidog. Don’t stop posting, and keep your chin up, mate.

Early stage Parkinson’s confirmed, and it is early, I am not too concerned.

    it just made it real.

Really sorry to hear that .. hopefully, you can live life to the full while you can.

Remember, it's easier to criticise than create!

Best of luck with the managing of it, hope you get it minimised.

  • Yo should I be worried? I am a proper worrier.

Got an appointment next week with my manager and HR regarding my occupational health assessment I had a few weeks back. I was assessed fit for work with a concern about walking the streets in the winter months as slips are an increased risk.

I've got it in my head I'm gonna be finished on I'll health..

If it's any help I can tell you that one of my best friends was diagnosed at 48 ........we're 59 now and it's only just started to be noticeable .He has still plays tennis to a very high County Veterans standard 5 times a week and we ski together every year .......he's a truly excellent skier and skis no differently now to how he did 30 years ago .
I don't think trips or slips have ever been the slightest concern but the only thing he has noticed in the last year is that he gets tired more easily .
I'm sure you wont have any works issues.
I wish you well although you will find that the meds are advancing very rapidly .

  • Time to tighten the belt.

Had management/HR meeting yesterday and from Monday I will be working 3 days a week on the transfer station.

It's what I wanted and I got them to agree to it being on a 3 month trial so my current position will be available should I choose to return.

  • 1st week in new position DONE

I like it lots of varied things to do and not constant for eg a good graft first hour of the day then it slows and you bit and bob then it's a graft the last hour. So it can drag a bit but I think it was a smart choice to move to this.

And after seeing all the numbers financially I think its going to be okay.

  • Few weeks in now and I'm enjoying the 3 days, especially next week as its Bank Holiday Monday meaning I'm not back in til next Thursday.

And financially its looking like we're gonna be okay so it's all looking good.

Only downside to this week was a guy telling me about his dad being diagnosed with PD and it only took 9 years to go from stage 1 to 5 and medication being stopped because nothing helped anymore.

This will probably sound trite, but if you haven’t already, read Michael J. Fox’s books - although I’ve only read the most recent so far, ‘No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality’.

Absolutely inspiring, even though I have no personal experience of this horrible condition. He’s an example to everyone that things are rarely quite as bleak as they seem, and even if they are, not to give up.

  • Have now given up riding to work, just don’t feel safe, Son is having moped so at least that’s not going to waste.

my brain is saying I’m operating the bike fine but then I end up near a curb or the central reservation, it literally is the most stressful part of my working day;  so I thought about it and came to the conclusion just cos I can legally ride a bike don’t mean I should if I don’t feel safe.

Ah man that sucks. :/  Good for you for being realistic about your riding skills though, it could have ended so badly for you or someone else. At least the bike will be getting ridden rather than just sitting there, hope your boy enjoys it .

Thinking of you.  Wise decision to give up the moped I'm sure you'll miss it but your safety is paramount

  • My father in law has been diagnosed with this, although he is in his 70s. I have nothing to say either, I wish I did, but positive thoughts heading your way.

Keep us updated, and keep on keeping on.

  • I am having to make some changes, changes I thought were years away but most of the time I get on with it and have a positive attitude. For instance the bus is not that bad I put headphones on and listen to some tunes,, it’s actually a bit soul searching. Bus from work to city centre goes to a bus station and 5 bays down is my bus to home. I used to get home at 20 past 3 now it’s just before 4pm. Now that is not bad.

and fortunately I can still play golf. Guitar, drums and keyboard are unfortunately dead to me now.

and @DB1 you don’t need to say anything useful to converse with me, I’m full of useless information #masteroftrivialpursuit :)

It might be worth investing in a turbo trainer for your bike if you enjoy it but don't feel safe on the roads. Exercise is thought to be neuroprotective in Parkinson's disease, it would be good to keep it up (plus you get all the other benefits like de-stressing and improving mood etc)

The tat made me grin.  Hopefully the future you foresee is a long way off - and developments in treatment are advancing ever faster so it may not even come.  My Mum lived with PD for many years and still managed a decent quality of life.
