below the "binding" will all be tinted with tobacco brown, thne its onto clear

In the last pic, the pick guard colours seemed to clash slightly with the burst colour? Although that could just be the way the lighting is hitting the different materials!
It looks a lot better than i expected, but part of me is wondering about painting the back of it black to darken it up a bit. I think this milk protein plastic can probably be stained too, so I have some options for tweaking it.
But I'm loving the way it all looks as it is anyway

Current thoughts on this are i definitely want to take cues from early archtops. Which means it should be black, tort or pearloid. We can rule out pearl i think. I also want to keep the aesthetic clean and simple, so no binding on the guard. A lot do have contrasting guards, but i want to avoid the corn beef bright red tort look that's common to a few
Part of me wants to cast my own, but i might leave those experiments for another day
i can also paint the back to make it darker , or foil the back to make it pop
Instagram
I think i have some 3 and 5 ply black, but want to avoid standard plastics... i want a bit of texture to it.
there is no actual binding anywhere else, other than the bare sycamore edge, so the challenge is to maintain that level of simplicity
Instagram
i'm still to decide on knobs, standard amber gibson style is my backup
Instagram
I think the guard is perfect as it is. It just needs a pair of old bakelite knobs to go with it.
(I still think it needs the triple diamond tailpiece too! )
"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski
"Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand." - Homer Simpson
As for the guard may be try gold/silver/bronze foil against it see if it pushed the light back a bit more or just black card to see what it would look like black painted. I don't like it as it is but worth the experiment.
its not too far off the aesthetic I have in my head (simplified gibson), and the tailpiece is similar to the Duesenberg one. We will see what i actually prefer once the part turns up
Instagram
I suggested foil originally as it is what was done on a lot of older guards, usually why they look too bright.
I went for medium tort on this one and part of me is wondering if the darker version would be better. Ideally i would want a bit more red, but not too much red
worth remembering the guards do often clash a bit on this style

The colours on your finish and pickguard are not hugely different to those on the Cromwell archtop. On the Cromwell, it all matches OK. But the Cromwell's pickguard pattern is much more defined and precise.
Perhaps it's just the cloudy pattern that's "off" on yours?
it takes actual light it change it
but it is kinda porous so i might look into tinting it a little

would be my preference if I was having this custom made myself.
Black just seems so plain, but I might knock one up at some point
