If I were you I'd try for a used USA rat with the original chip in it.
DS-2 is a fine pedal too but a different sound and less flexible
Andertons did a shootout.
TLDR. They all sound quite similar give or take.
The DS-2 and Super Badass are both excellent (I use both) and I would take either over a RAT however they are also very different so it depends what you are going for.
I have to admit I've wondered about that. Proco themselves stop using the chip decades ago because production ceased. Then really, really cheap clones from china appear in the last 10 years using the old LM308?
Just playing devil's advocate, the difference between the 308 and other op amps (OP07?) is pretty small. If they put OP07s in the clones and just screen printed LM308 onto them, would anyone know?

Spotify, Apple et al
It's the OG for a reason.
Who's to say these modified versions are an improvement? It's all taste/subjective... To some they might be, to others, nope.

I bought one about 5 years ago and it's solid....
ETA: I've now got a Little Bear R.Attack, another cheapo with a Turbo setting and an EQD Life, a not so cheap Rat copy. Because one Rat isn't enough.
IMO the opamp doesn't matter :-) I just used it cos it's a bit funky and I'm a nerd. OP07 is fine
My favourite Rat is the turbo, a smidge tighter and fuller
Yep Turbo is LED, classic is silicon and Dirty is germanium.
I bought mine from them when I was in the US. Send them an email and see what they'd charge for shipping. Even if you get dinged with import charges I couldn't see it being much more than £110 or so ($80mfor the pedal, $20 for the shipping, $25 for import duty (?).
