Feline Guitars - customer builds updates

Thought I'd keep the builds for sale and the commissioned builds separate so it's easier to tell what is for sale and what is being done to order for a customer request (might even be for one of you guys).

So this thread is for the specially ordered stuff
Let's start the ball rolling with this beauty...
A customer loved the sound and function of a superstrat that he had had for nearly 3 years but hated the neck of it
They wanted me to shave the neck until they started playing a few of our guitars and then they wanted to transplant the bits of their guitar that they liked to something that we might build for them.
Tey settled on our Lion Special model as a good contender but wanted to keep the timber choice of something stratty and use the longer 25.5" scale to retain as much of the superstrat vibe but in a new format

So here is the first Lion Special Floyd model

The switch is a 6 position gearbox style "Freeway" switch which gives all the best options of sound —
The usual 5 way switch choices plus neck and bridge together too!

Our familiar all access neck joint but in maple and ash  this time

Many guitars have a re-sale value. Some you'll never want to sell.
Stockist of: Earvana & Graphtech nuts, Faber Tonepros & Gotoh hardware, Fatcat bridges. Highwood Saddles.

Pickups from BKP, Oil City & Monty's pickups.

Bob wanted another special Lion guitar and we offered himone of the forthcoming 25th Anniversary Lions. However Bob had different ideas for the inlays so whilst he had one of the beautiful quilted caps we had reserved , it wouldn't be one of the 25th series. Bob does have a 20th Anniversary too so we won't feel too bad about it :)

And finally finished with paint on her etc

Bob went for a pair of Bare Knuckle Pickups Supermassive P90s under no hole chrome covers.
These are paired with some Bare Knuckle/CTS pots and a pair of BKP/Jensen tone caps.
We use a special nickel screening paint throughout the cavities to reduce noise.
A tonepros bridge and Tonepros locking tailpiece studs holding a lightweight aluminium tailpiece.

And of course that carved heel joint

Feline Fatcat model - Kind of like a downsized solidbody (or chambered) version of a 335.
Pete ordered this baby with a big range of tones - including a pair of TV Jones pickups and a BKP strat single in the middle - with it's own vol control to bring it in
The bridge has a Piezo output so acoustic sounds are on tap too

John has asked us to make him one of our Tabby Hybrid guitars
This is the tele style with a strat lower horn so that it will take a strat pickguard
John requested a set of Irish tour and also a piezo bridge so he can have acoustic sounds as well

So we have a swamp ash body, a three piece slightly birdseye maple neck with a separate birdseye maple fingerboard
The headstock is a lean back design as is becoming more of a standard thing with us of late on these unless requested otherwise- we feel that we get a better more consistent break angle at the nut (earvana in this case)

So are you still taking orders for custom builds? I remember a thread where you said you may not take any more orders?

As always your guitars are simply stunning and I'm thinking more and more than rather than spending my money on guitars built for the masses or particular artists I should just pay you a visit, tell you what my dream guitar would be and have you build it.

The black Fat Cat looks amazing

Yes - still building but trying to be careful not to load too much onto our plates so we can cope with it and not have the builds take so long to complete because of having too many on. Also a little price revision to finally catch up with the having to collect VAT for the revenue and the rising cost of timbers and components and to better reflect the time spent on a build especially with much repair work also in the pipeline.

Next up on the build queue is a replica of Argent mainman Russ Ballard's strat with all the holes
Russ has written so many hit songs that you possibly didn't realise were him - it's worth looking up.
I loved his Music since the early stuff like Hold Your Head Up  and God Gave Rock and Roll to You
Later "hits" included Hot Chocolate's So You Win Again...New York Groove(Hello/Kiss)...Since You've Been gone and I Surrender (Rainbow) and the list goes on

So Russ actually tipped his friend Iain in our direction to have a replica made I was given access to Russ' guitar , which was somewhat surreal for me as I love Russ' playing
The result is below - it is based on the current configuration of Russ' guitar with a hum bucker at the bridge and a tele type neck (the original strap headstock got broken on tour.

A guitar being made for a banjo player who wanted something that would feel familiar that he could play open G bluegrass, blues and Rolling stones open G guitar licks on

Open G tuning makes Keith Richards licks a must

Yes the inlays on the front of the narrow necked beauty are laid out like a bluegrass instrument - 10th inlay instead of 9th

We had a special 5 string hardtail bridge made just for this guitar

Oil City pickups made us some special 5 polepiece pickups with coil taps to go between a tele sound to a more P90-ish sound. These will have custom cut flatwork inside an open fronted humbucker shell.

We adapted a 6 string headstock - brought the two tuners on the underside in a bit and visually separated them with a small pearl heart. There will be a Feline logo on there too when it's all finished

All access neck joint ....why not

The bridge was made by an engineer friend of mine who does a few bit and pieces for me when needed
Wasn't cheap in the end but was a tidy way to do it

@FelineGuitars - I was over at Jonathan's today and he's putting together and putting out some great pieces. That 5-string in G tuning was wonderful.

The workmanship, weights, playability and resonance of these things are superb and whilst I really like the Lions, those Lion Cubs are pretty special.

Great guy, great guitars and good company, too. Nice chatting and catching up, Jonathan and cheers for sorting out my pedalboard.

Just finished another of our Tabby Hybrid models.
This melds together classic elements of strat and tele designs with our own twist.

A swamp ash body mated to a three piece maple neck with a separate fingerboard.
We alter the body shape to utilise a stray style lower horn so a regular start pick guard can be used

Rear view showing the all access neck joint and the start style contours on the rear

Electrics are a trio of Bare Knuckle Irish Tour pickups and an LR Baggs piezo equipped strap tremolo bridge

We used Luminlay  side marker dots that glow for an hour from a 5minute UV charge

The lean back headstock  with a volute  and locking tuners

An Earvana Compensated Tuning nut helps with giving the guitar a greater degree of in tune-ness
