I always wanted to get a Country/Country Rock project going for no better reason that I wanted to use a name which embedded itself in my mind indelibly from a H&S warning sign.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to...

    The Tripp Hazzard Band...

    Nashville Outcasts
    The Billybobs
    Moonshine County Band
    The Sherrifs
    The Mason Dixon band
    Rednecks
    Sixshooter

They are all names from my fantasy country bands - I am a huge country fan but can never convince people I play with or my own band to get a proper country thing together - I desperately want to be a cowboy-bootin , stetson wearing ,tele slinging,chicken-pickin guitar hero - I played a few times with a guy who had worked the Nashville scene and the Honky Tonks - wow, they're better than good those boys...........or those good 'ol boys !

  • I like 2 of your suggestions. You should put out adverts to start a country band if that is what you are interested in. I take you will be at the Americana festival next year??

  • Ha ha. Whip a will is how it is pronounced so not discriminating on a less wealthy Will and generalising to anyone called Will!!

it's got to be something personal to you, or something that represents you, I think you're onto a loser asking for band names from random strangers with nothing other than a music style.

Personally, I'd have avoided something that folk won't know how to pronounce and/ or spell. In this day and age you want a name someone can hear once and still remember next time they're on Facebook.

.....aaaaand you also need to make sure the name isn't already taken....which Whippoorwill is.(Sorry!)

  • I like Whippoorwill and it seems to evoke the right image. It will fail the pub chalkboard test. Never expect to see it spelt correctly by a pub landlord.
I’ll handle this Violet, you take your three hour break.

    You could call the band.....
    'Free Spirits'
You would pack pubs out every time with that on the chalk board outside.
