You could have a Toy Story theme and be called "There's a snake in my boots"

God damn that is a good idea, except it fails when you say "Hi everyone we are there's a snake in my boots". Doesn't really roll of the tongue. Reach for the sky also works, both as a Toy Story thing and an instruction to your fans...although you might be confused with an S Club 7 tribute act.

"I Am Koot" had the same problem. I saw them once and they came on and said "Hi we are I Am Kloot" and about half the audience looked at each other and went "WTF?"

A friend of mine is a massive Dr Who fan and his country band is called "Stetsons are Cool".

I was thinking more of a cool name rather than comedy.

If it's covers I always think go for something blindingly obvious. Georgie's Country Rockers. Something that says what you are. Bands of people I know a little who do covers/ tributes that do really well, guess what they play: The Funksters; Skabucks; Soul Survivors; Ultimate Madness; Rats in the Kitchen. For originals then the world's your oyster, for something that conveys Americana I guess you would play around with US sounding words : Cadillac, Stetson, screen door, diner and better examples.
I’ll handle this Violet, you take your three hour break.

    I'm offended! ;)

I think as EricTW says go for something really obvious so that anyone seeing only your name on a bill will know the genre. "The Country Cowboys" is a shit name, but it's perfect for a pub covers band. My band are called "Soul RIot" not because it's the best name in the world, but because it has the word Soul in it.

  • M.I.A Madeleine ?

The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

Get the band together, get a huge sheet of paper (A2 at least), some marker pens and a shitload of booze. Write down words that appeal to you and fit the genre, and spend an hour fixing them together. I guarantee you'll come up with something useable that'll have members saying "why didn't I come up with that?".

In that case you might like our band: www.dexeterband.co.uk - named Dexeter after lead vocalist Deeanne Dexeter. Although the country crowd are typically a traditional bunch, I think that having a name which is less obviously country has helped us stand out from the crowd a bit.

I like short band names, and I like allusions. "Blondie" was a good choice on both counts. Could you get the boys to accept "Goldilocks"?

Yeah but I am not the front 'person' I am the guitarist. So that wouldn't work, being a vegan having the word 'bacon' in the name doesn't bode well but i do like the idea of a joint decision!

How about "Rose of Sharon" or "Rosasharn" as she is called in The Grapes Of Wrath?

Don't read the book - it will break your heart.
