    The only thing about the likes of Hendrix, Jim Morrison etc. is they became legends partly because they died young.

    I reckon, with a bit of therapy, Kurt Cobain could still be writing good songs. Even if his voice was knackered. 
    Not so sure tbh - they were both groundbreaking. Jimi reinvented rock playing and blew the (high quality competition) out of the water and Morrison to me came along and combined the beat poets approach with jazz rock and the whole wild tortured rock star cliche to a tee.

    I agree. Note the word "partly".

    That's something that I've always wondered, Mark. I grew up with Buddy Holly as my first idol - although he died a year before I was born, his music was always on on our record player, and I loved his songwriting and guitar skills.

    He embraced new ideas as well and I can't help thinking that he would have gone on to be a master writer and producer, possibly even aligning with the country scene. He'd 'only' be around 85 now as well - what a talent we were deprived of.

    We've already had Bon Scott and Freddie, so I'll throw Steve Clark into the mix.  Leppard might still be a rock band.
    I was reading an interview with Vivian Campbell the other day, talking about the differences between playing with Last in Line and Def Leppard.  He says the Leppard show is very much "set", he and Phil have to be spot on with their respective guitar parts and vocals, there's no room for improvisation.  I'd imagine Steve Clark was a bit more free-form (I did actually see them on the first Hysteria tour, but I don't remember much about it).
