Well, when I saw Joey Landreth in there I thought it’d have been him but actually it was close run for me between Rebea and Josh Smith with Joey 3rd. Some really great playing in there from all of them, although a couple (including PD) felt like they were trying to fill every second with notes, not letting any of their phrases breathe.

Really interesting hearing so many different ideas over the same backing. He’s done few of these now and they’re always worth a watch.

In the spirit of Solo of the Month challenges, I'll vote as follows :)

1st : 5 points : Rabea : An elegant, very musical approach. Expressive. Understated. Most sympathetic to the backing track.

2nd : 3 points : Ross Campbell : Nice bluesy expressive feel. Some great subtleties.

3rd : 1 point : Martin Miller : Staggering technique, control and phrasing. Sounded the most technically accomplished.

But they're all fantastic,so it's just down to personal taste.

    It's not a competition.

I'm very glad none of these guys participate in SOTM

1st : 5 points : Rabea - Great feel and very sympathetic to the chords

2nd : 3 points : Ross Campbell - Some lovely resolutions and very dynamic.

    3rd : 1 point : Josh Smith - I thought he'd easily be my favourite but no.

It feels strange not giving any points to @fastonebaz ; :)

Wow, Rabea totally nailed that and I thought he was primarily a downtuned metal guy !

Not when he gets a strat in his mitts!

I've only really tuned into Rabea's channel over the last couple of years...astounding player.

    Good angle ;)

Ross Campbell wasn't on my radar so that was a surprise...very tasty.

I only listened to the first two guys in their entirety and fast forwarded through the rest. Some tasty stuff, some stuff seemed over the top at times. Was it just me, or did Rabea's guitar sound like a Tele at times?

1st:  Kfir Ochaion - big, fat LP tone with gratuitous delay.  Power chords, pinched harmonics,  Love it!

2nd: Ross Campbell - loved the Knopfler-esque volume swells and the slidey chordy part in the middle.

3rd: Mateus Asato - some wicked string bending, and bonus points for not stopping at the end!

Honourable mention: Rabea - the passage leading into the final section was exquisite.

    Kfir Ochaion
     Ross Campbell

Im finding it difficult to choose between these two to be honest .
Ross solo had a lot of elements in it that for me contain certain Sambora elements I can imagine it fitting in a Bon Jovi Ballad from the 80s . Kfir just sounds great on that Les Paul too & would be a great addition to any 80s power ballad .

JOINT WINNERS FOR ME  ROSS & KFIR

I thought most of them opened up in very similar way

but all very good, even though I think I wanted to not like some.  The one I most disliked was the jazz guy which just seems like cliche clauses one after th other .

Really loved the most the lady guitarist- everyone had some tricks and some lovely sounds and dynamics etc, but she was the most original and listenable to me at least

For me, Ross Campbell…but it was a very close call between the ten of them.

I found it a most enjoyable video.

What would be an even better way, first play through without hearing the track before, real seat of the pants instinctive playing

Or even recording a solo before you've downloaded the backing track.. It's in Am... go! Just hope something lines up.

The art of improvising is that, an art, plying off the cuff and extrapolating ideas in real time is a lot more impressive than pre planning a roadmap of a solo

I've been meaning to watch this for a couple of days, and now I have... let's be honest, I had to fast forward through most of it.  It's way too highbrow for me, and the sight of Paul Davids gurning away in the top right-hand corner of every clip is very offputting.

I liked Kfir's solo because it's a bit more rocking and aggressive.  The others can all do one.

Josh Smith could easily get a role in The Rings of Power if they ever do another series.

    What a great video.

5 points - Josh Smith, never really listened to Josh, but this was brilliant, with that Tele tone came through like a freight train with a passion and intensity only matched by….

3 points - Mateus Asato, a little overplayed perhaps, but Jesus what a player.

1 point - Ross Campbell, no idea who this guy is but a very coherent and tasty solo.

I’ve listened to the solos a few times trying to figure out what was stopping me from liking the technical & musical talent. I’ve concluded that the backing track was quite busy which meant that a lot of the folk played out of the track at some point which to me felt like (talented) noodling but not playing as a whole

on coming back through the solos I’m going on that basis

3rd. Heyyyyy it’s Marty. Nice little solo. Not overplayed & compliments very well

2nd. Julia. Lovely sound & just flows very well with the backing track

1st. Ross. He stretches my rule to the point but it does add a nice bit of aggression while not overplaying

    Interesting!

For me a lot of the driving force of what I like is set by the tone, and my faves for playing with tone being an integral part, were:

1 Ross Campbell and also Mateus Asato
I just love the SC sound!

A surprising third for me was Paul Davids.
