    That was a tricky one for me - and I'd tried a totally rich effected clean tone previously to try and use that - but I was killing myself with rerecording it, so I banged this out this morning instead - and I'm happier with it all round - phew - glad thats done!


    1991 Hamer Centaura Custom Order (Solid figured Maple Body and SD Parallel Axis set (PATB-1, and 2x PATB STK) - Fractal FM3 on a Boosted Bogner Blue Model, with two IRs - one 4x12 GB, one 2x12 JC Combo), CE-2 Chorus Model, in to parallel stereo Tape Delay and Dual Detune Pitch - panned Land R hard across all of them, then finished off with Medium Plate reverb Model.

    Bridge HB with about 30% treble rolled off on the guitar.

     

    One thing on the track that was really hard in my brain is that it ends before resolving to the E.

    so I decided to try something to imply the resolution at the end using the three note motif from earlier but with natural harmonics and slowly dive-bombshell the second one to point to the E and just decay….. you can hear the trem springs creaking - poor old thing

    The FM3 IRs even on standard quality are great for the length of cab decay. This was a test of that and I was really impressed.

    I really like the backing track but I've been struggling with this, must have made about a hundred recordings so far, trying different approaches, but getting very frustrated with my timing and phrasing, the slower pace really highlighting my errors. Trying now a more textural approach, will keep at it.

    Finally settled on something. I started off trying to do it in the style of Bernard Butler or Mike McCready but was getting nowhere. After many botched attempts I found myself doing a more of a War on Drugs tons of effects type of thing. 

    American Standard Strat > Keeley Dark Side Fuzz then Flanger > Dod Rubberneck > Digitech Polara Plate Reverb > OBNE Whitecap Tremolo >  HX Stomp Brit Plexi Norm    (the delay-reverb and trem in the fx loop of the stomp)

    A bit late to the party but I just sent one in. Glad I didn't listen to any of the others before attempting this one otherwise I might not have gone for it, top draw stuff this month. Sorry to @PickNick for accidentally plagiarising your use of festive spirit!

    After a some (many) run throughs I got this down in a continuous take (minus the brief bit of harmony). Tone was tele bridge pickup --> Jan Ray --> Benson Germanium Fuzz --> DSM & Humbolt Simplifier --> Studio One (brought out all the overpriced, unjustified-by-my-skills toys for this one!) Inspiration was: Oh crap, the deadline's nearly up/let's forget trying to play so many notes and try to get it in the pocket, or at least more so than my last attempt. 

    I also video'd this one, although the cinematography leaves a bit to be desired, my curtains seem to feature more heavily than I'd intended.

    Go for it , it’s my second month and I’m really enjoying being involved now I can easily create a track on GarageBand. It’s really interesting listening to all the different approaches and I’m already looking forward to the next one .
