Cannot praise the quality of his work highly enough. Re-fretted a Caparison of mine and a few set-ups too

For those able to make it to Bristol I can't recommend Johnny Kinkade highly enough. A master luthier with decades of experience, all the work he has done on my guitars has been flawless. Simon Law of SVL guitars has a similar opinion and sent me there for work on my SVL when he was on tour with Robben Ford and unable to do it himself. Johnny's website is Kinkadeguitars.co.uk.

Who have people used around the Cambridgeshire area? My strat badly needs some TLC and I dont have time for her :(
Not quite Cambridgeshire and maybe a bit late now but I'd recommend Dream Guitar Services in Woodford. He made one of my guitars play amazingly well. Bit of an odd character but he does a good job haha

Anyone know of any decent techs in the cambridgeshire/ely area?

If not, I might wind up going all the way to Sudbury for the other recommendations, but I suspect I'll have my Tele and PRS builds done professionally - my jazzmaster has a crude shim and a terrible looking nut, though it plays well, sounds great and holds tune brilliantly... I would be ashamed to show it to a tech XD

    Im in Stevenage? www.tjcguitars.com

I've just had work done on three of my guitars which I'm very pleased with.

@lescaster did you get sorted? If you go back through this Discussion there are recommendations but Jamie Davey in Pattingham gets a lot of love.
I’ll handle this Violet, you take your three hour break.

Another big up to Mighty Matt Ryan

Great guy and really knows his stuff. Just had a set up with rotosound 9s so needed some adjustment from the heavier old strings.

Its playing and sounding great , his work is just fantastic. My guitars all play consistently well after visiting this dude.

Any recommendations for the North London/Enfield area? I've tried LA Guitars and they're very good, but rather pricey. Also tried Malcolm Hind and he did a decent job on my Gibson J50 but seems to be closed now. Anywhere else?

Howard Smith in Leicester. Terrific prices / service / chap http://howardsmith.co.uk/howardsmith/hsgrs.htm
Many years since I used Howard but when I lived in Leicester and took my guitars to him he was exceptional and a great chap to deal with. Great to see he's still at it!

Eli Abbott at Abbot music, http://www.abbottsmusic.co.uk is a legend. Doesn't over charge, looks after your gear and treats his customers fairly. He also builds a damn nice boutique amp. Lovely feller and a life saver for most of us in the North Northants area.

    Hi @TTony, ;

Guitar Repairs Birmingham has closed it's doors. I know Joe who owns it, and he stopped a little while ago. You'll notice the link is dead. Someone else may have mentioned it, but I haven't checked here.

Another vote for LA Guitars in Finchley, North London http://www.laguitars.com

Friendly, helpful and speedy service for a repair to an acoustic. David also checked over an electric I was thinking of buying and spent some time taking me through the process of what needed looking at and what they do during a proper set up. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

If your in Devon check out Phil at project Music. He just re set my PRS up after another guy had messed around with it and its great. Plays better than ever. I had a real issue keeping it in tune when using the trem and he has sorted it out a treat.

  • Jim Fleeting in Stockport has done quite major work on a Martin and an ancient Levin of mine.  Very high quality work and not overpriced - also a really nice guy. He also builds electrics and acoustics.  http://jimfleetingguitars.com/    07792 457741

My 2012 LP Studio needs a quality nut and I'm in Newbury, Berkshire... can anyone recommend someone near me to do this? Don't have time to travel miles at the moment. Anyone used Hogans Music for this type of work?

    Thanks

Just here to give a +1 for Howard Smith in Leicester. Just got my SG back after he fitted a new nut, polished the frets and gave it a setup. Transformed the guitar. I could tell from looking it how much better it was going to play as my pickups were a lot lower meaning he managed to get the action really low but still somehow no buzz! Highly recommended. I won't be taking my other guitars anywhere else from now on.

I'd like to give a massive recommendation to Graham Hill in Trowbridge - brilliant bloke and a great tech, fixed my beloved Les Paul's headstock break with no fuss, regular pictorial updates, a very quick turnaround and an extremely reasonable price! I'd trust him with any repairs. Can't recommend him enough!
