Can anyone think of anything like this??

I have a lowden Bog Oak and Lutz spruce F35 and a Martin spruce and sinker mahogany dread, I want something to go with these two guitars, not to compete with them or cross over too much. Light build, purely for fingerpicking. No smaller than 00 as they all seem to sound like a box of cornflakes to me. All I can think of is another Lowden and that’s not what I want, and not something I can afford. Not really sure I want to go custom either. If it’s a Martin, I don’t like their satin finish. I don’t need a pickup. 12 or 14 fret

I have a horrible feeling your spot on. I was hoping for something cheeper, but not sure I’m going to be 100% happy. Would be a long time saving/paying a Santa Cruz off, and I’ve not tried this model. I loved a Santa Cruz VA dread. Not mad keen on Collings.

I wounded if there’s something more around the £2k budget.

That 1929 is off the the scale. The spinal Tap one at that
There’s the 000-15SM at the lower end of things but longer scale and annoying finish
Gibson LG0 is great but there’s compromise to be had with the nut.
I wish Collings made a  Waterloo hog top. They are missing a trick

Yeah, the Waterloo Kel Kroydon looks spot on to me, wish it had a hog top. That would be more up my street I think. I’ve not tried the Santa Cruz but think it may end up a little too complex in tone. I might be completely wrong though

  • Waterloo have a few 00-12/14's in all Mahogany.

Eastman had a all Mahogany 00-14 as well, discontinued though now.

Not solid but Sigma do as well.

  • Martin had a signature model for Jeff Tweedy that was a deep body 00-14.  Out of production but they crop up SH now and again.  Long scale though.

It's not a 00, but wider than a 0, Guild have a few all Mahogany smaller bodied 14 fret guitars.

Coda music have a beautiful new 00 Brook Lynn 12-fretter in figured mahogany. it is up on Reverb at £2,650 (with a make offer option) - https://reverb.com/item/27550358-brook-lyn-figured-mahogany

  • Many thanks.

Like the look of brooks and need to try them out. Liked the few James Millman guitars I’ve tried and I think he started at Brook

Coda has a Tweedy in stock, used, but I really wanted 1 3/4” with a shorter scale.

That WL12-mh looks perfect.  Watch this space....

Hi. I’ve looked but the specs seem odd with a long scale and narrow nut. I think the retro ones are right for me but they have a bloody crap pickup installed with nobs and a tuner on the side, plus I’m assuming they have that matt finish. Thanks though. The little Waterloo looks spot on. Or if I had the money the Santa Cruz.

Not sure what specs you have seen but it should a 24.9 short scale with a 1 3/4 nut. Obviously, if a mahogany top is a must have then it is not suitable, but the V series are really liveley guitars IMHO.

Just in case you send it back, when I saw this thread just now thought of this one immediately:

    https://www.taylorguitars.com/guitars/acoustic/522ce

Has a pickup but pretty sure all Taylors do now over a certain price...

Yes, pretty much. It's a real shame that Taylor do this. The only models with an option for no pickup are the Academy, Baby Taylor and the new Grand Pacific. I guess you have to go the custom route if you want one of the other guitars without any electronics.

To Taylor's credit I like the unintrusive controls... three knobs, unlabelled, that's all... no big square panels with a zillion switches and sliders and knobs that once dead are locked in there forever... but yeah, it would be nice to be able to order one au naturel...

It’s nice. Really fun to play. Sharp frets so guess Camden shop is rather dry at the moment. It’s a great little blues box. Not sure it’s worth the money to be honest mate. Sending it back unfortunately.  Not up for having to do work to a £2200 guitar, just annoying. I know it’s an easy fix, but not doing it when it cost this much, it should be perfect apart from a minor ding on the top they mentioned on their site. Id say the little martins are probables a better buy, and cheeper. It’s a shame.

Would love to change the strings before it goes back too, why they bother sending it out with black rubber bands on it, I’ll never know. Hay ho.

What a shame they sent it out like that. Probably went some way to making your decision for you
Well if your back on the hunt and thinking the Martin may be better look at this
