this is the design for the soundport cover, to be done in maple

Looks great. I never thought about a removeable cover for a soundport before. I guess an added advantage is the opportunity for an acoustic wah-wah effect!

Seriously though, this looks like being one very special guitar when finished.

this cover won't be removeable, but there are sliding covers on the web.

the purpose of my one is for appearance, I wanted a pattern made from a few holes- something like this but celtic:

the Avalon guys pointed out that with the dark woods it would look odd, so the maple is to make it look like a deliberate design, not just some random holes

I probably should have looked at your "soundport" posting. I see someone else has also thought of the wah-wah feature. I can see now how well the maple would work. Like I said (but with more emphasis) a very very special guitar.

That soundport looks badass. I wish the boutique builders would do more stuff like that instead of piling on oodles of abalone like jizz on a Japanese pornstar’s face.

cheers, I went for the unusual-shade light green shell, normal-dimensions rosette, to let the wood dominate the look

Yep that’s gonna really pop once they’ve coated it, especially with the contrast between the top and the sides.
