As a complete and utter newbie to all of this who is basically a very much beginner strummer or open chords (who is not even really sure I am good enough to be playing the jam) I am going to have to throw myself on the mercies of the more experienced ones among you to help me learn what chords to play! I have no idea where to start with any of this and am not experienced enough to learn from a video. Sorry....

I would love to join in with Comfy and Wanted Dead or Alive if there are simple enough parts (or any others that come along that may be suitable for me too).  That would be just amazing to play on.  I could also do a bit of backing vocals as I do sing a bit.

As for song song choices of my own, I am not sure what to suggest because the versions of songs that I play with my guitar buddy are not necessarily the original versions.  They tend to be more simplified versions.   Crumbs I feel so stupid.......
I had no idea what to expect on my first jam. At this very venue. It’s a great place with an easy vibe, so that should help you settle for starters.

Prob the best advice I can give, is come with an open mind. No expectations, no pressure. Whatever prep you do, is what you do. Come as you are, and bring your guitar.  =)
Yeah @blackjack this is where it's at, there will be no pressure on the day, will be a lot of fun, it's usually all smiles and laughs on the day :)

I could ask, what is the tune you enjoy playing most on the guitar?  As a "newb" you get a choice on, and I'd happily help you make whatever work on the day, as I know will others :)
We have to be so very careful, what we believe in...

Teenage Kicks is a jam favourite, good fun and not hard to play in structure or technique, and you have 4 months to get it. Plus it's short and sharp so if all goes wrong you're outta there in a couple of minutes anyway!

  • Aw thank you so much guys! I am blown away by your kindness.  One thing, several of you mentioned acoustic... do I need to bring my acoustic as I was planning on bringing my beloved Tele? No problem if I do need to go acoustic, I love my Taylor too!!!

I'm not bringing an acoustic, can't be arsed, loud is good for me these days

I haven't played dakota but i really like stereophonics, I'll see if i can get it learnt just in case i can sneak in a bit of rhythm for anyone

Can I add another suggestion (you can substitute either of my previous offerings)? I keep forgetting to put it forward:

    The Bends - Radiohead

Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder

    My trading feedback  - I'm a good egg  ;)

Who's going to attempt singing Radiohead?!

I'm still thinking of a couple of song suggestions but will be bringing the Taylor again for anyone to use.

  • My suggestions anyways...

An Oasis song (maybe "Columbia" this time, or "Don't Look Back In Anger")

I Saw Her Standing There by the Beatles

but aim for this sort of version...

@MtB are you spreadsheeting these?  Happy to do so if it helps?

I'll second I Saw Her Standing There, was going to post that as one of mine.  Bagsy Georges parts please!  Played that a gig a while back and was great fun.

Heres the "in the room" recordings from the recent Quad jam if you want to get an idea of the range of tracks played, and range of abilities that got together to all make some music (forum member played keys, bass, guitar, vocals and some drums). Everyone contributed to the music and got something from the event.

Oh, there seems to be plenty of takers for Comfy, could this be a good time to renege on my verbal agreement with @munckee on a duo?  =)

Only because I'm thinking of others and definitely not because I've still yet to learn any of it and am absolutely bricking myself about playing live.  :#

That’s a pity @poopot it was great jamming on Tush at the last event!

who is organising this event now? I’m happy to play a few songs on drums it’ll need a proper drummer for most of the songs.

It is a pity... but as mentioned in the other thread

My infuriation and reluctance to join in the fun has everything to do with the snide comments made after the Southern Jam that I have recently been made aware of. (I would like to add that I was not down to play on anything at waterrats that day and was more than happy with my role as Jam organiser).

    Snide comments made by @TTony and aimed at myself (after stepping in on a song) for reasons best know to @TTony. ;

Comments such as “don’t they know it’s my song” and “why should I have some arsehole widdling over my song” really are the sort of comments you would expect from a petulant child rather than a grown man.

Not sure, just seen @poopot is taking a break for a week. Is anyone based in the area that can deal with the studio? I’m willing to help on the day.

That’s because Tony has left the forum and refunded everyone rather than pass the funds onto another organiser. Give it a few days to see if anyone steps forward to help out.

I'm not near the venue but @MtB is running the playlist and I don't mind sorting the money. Is it just a case of getting everyone to PayPal me and then me paying the studio. Are there any other costs?

Drummer - without a good drummer (ie not me!) it’s very difficult to get good versions of the songs. Need to find one and offer them cash to learn 20 songs to a good standard!

I do not know a drummer (other than you!) only people I know anywhere near Woking who may know a drummer we could hire (if we can find them) would be @snags and @Danny1969 do either of you chaps know anyone who could help for a bit of cash?
