Finally bloody finished and it's a beast, i think it'll kick a pafs arse for harder rock, good job as it's getting gigged in a stoner rock band very soon, light subtle ageing has taken me months but worth it

Beautiful work. I'd just like to highlight that headstock design. It must be really hard to come up with a non-lawsuit design, and I think that one is an elegant and functional solution. I think if I had the cash for a premium guitar, I'd be knocking on your door rather than Gibson's, without a shadow of a doubt.

Thanks and i agree about headstocks, i don't see the point of fudging over an open book when i think the strings need straightening out, my opinion is it's either a replica or not

Enough vintage stuff for now as I'm just doing some junior hot rod builds and something I've been thinking about for a while so I'm making a sc and dc style for Scott at sc relics, we've been talking about this type of thing for a while, while these are a bit more vintage built the next ones are having modern 2 way rods and carbon fibre reinforced strips with a view to more mixing things up like finishes and hardware, scotts doing the finishing when I've built them, these are 2 necks in progress and I'll post up more as i get more done

I don't really know anything about fret scales as such, so was wondering what benefits there are to using the "rule of 18 fret scale" compared to what Gibson uses nowadays?

Might be a really stupid question, but hey.

    There's a big difference between a true 24.75 and a vintage one
Gibson has used a couple of modern ones after 1960 as far as i know 24.625 and 24.562 which is the closest to the old scale

From my perspective if it ain't broke don't fix it, one thing that's always stood out is up the dusty end there just seems to be a bit more room to me, it intonates great even with a wraptail, I've been using it for years now and don't plan on changing it

    Thanks.

The reason I asked is because I have a 2016 Les Paul Special, and I've realised I struggle a bit on the higher frets from around the 15th/16th upwards.  It feels much tighter up there than on my other guitars, and I remember in one of the Namm videos someone from Gibson mentioned that they had adjusted the fret scale on their wraptail guitars to help with intonation.

I was planning on getting one of the new 2019 Juniors, but I'm guessing those will be similar than my Special - hmm.

Depending on how much they are you could probably have one made to your specs for similar money
