Let's 'Ave Some Banging Bass Solos!

What's Hot
BellycasterBellycaster Frets: 5750
Let's Pep this section up with some of your most loved Bass solos you've captured on You Tube. Seven months in and we ain't done this yet.

Blimey!

This is a double whammy as you not only get Louis Johnson, but you get a funky guitar solo from Paul Jackson Jr.

I think Louis wrecked a string on that one.

I'll have to include this guy as he is "Off the Meter"

Let's have some more awesome solos.

And they said that in our time, all that's good will fall from grace, even Saints would turn their face, in our time.

    Johnson: excellent
    Claypool: Meh, just never got into his style
    Hamm: excellent

    I live groove bass playing rather than widdle. I really like James Durand's Mark King inspired playing for sound and feel

    And the musicality of this is lovely:

    There's a drum solo on this (don't know how to edit it out, sorry), but this man has always been my favourite bass player. Criminally under rated.

    Stanley Clarke's "School Days" with fantastic guitar from Ray Gomez

    - the solo sort of starts at 2:28 but the bass is pretty upfront all the way through and really kicks in from 3:08

    "So what" by MVP not only has 3 guitar solos from messrs Brett Garsed (superb stuff on this one), Shawn Lane and Frank Gambale, but the first solo is a bass solo from Jimmy Earl.

    I have to say, I'm not a fan of bass solos but I quite like the Louis Johnson that @Bellycaster put up.

    Nice! Good example of how clanky a good bass tone sounds in isolation, bet that sounds great in the mix.

    @axisus ;

    Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck, I love that James Durand vid, that's going in my Faves for definite. I love Mark King's playing, but I left it to someone else to nod towards him.

    Nice one @Kebabkid for Stanley Clarke and @racefaceec90 for Squarepusher two new discoveries for me there.

    Some other great players here @TheOtherDennis N.W.R what a player.

    And quite rightly, we can't have a Bass thread without "The Ox".

    That was chuffin excellent, love the Cam. What a kick ass tone that Bassist has.

    That rude man made I blush ;-)

    I'm going to allow myself this one. Although it's actually a Bassline, it's prominence almost lends itself to a solo performance.

    What a example of great Bass Playing.

    @ThePrettyDamned you're quite right, that tone makes me shit brix every time. Incredible.

    My favourite bass solo has got to be Pete Perez at 2:15 into this Spastic Ink track. Excuse the quality.

    He is amazing.

    @fretmeister

    I like that upright Bass track and Billy Sheehan is insanely good, he must have Kevlar for skin on his finger tips.

    I'd not heard of them before, very groovy Bass playing on that, it reminds me a bit of John Deacon's style, but speeded up a bit.

    Jimmy Johnson live with Allan Holdsworth in the 90s, starts at 0:50. A fantastic mix of fluidity and melodicism

    I've just remembered a syncopated guitar and bass workout that has prominent lead bass. It's Extreme's "Cupid's Dead" and instead of using the original recording, I found a bassist playing it so you can hear it all upfront.

    Have a listen to the whole track as the bass is pretty lively but the riff/soloing kicks in at 2:01

    It's here also at 4:07 with Nuno and Paul Gilbert playing it live

    @IanSavage

    I remember you posting me something by them before re Bass. He is very good indeed.

    That was a great cover by that guy, really tough song that one.

    I know Jaco is Uber talented and a technical wiz, but I do find him "not too easy on the ear" sometimes, there were parts of that solo that I couldn't wait to finish and then some bits I liked more. There was some super crazy Rhythm Guitar work in there too.

    I did quite like the Jimmy Johnson solo that @bigjon sent in.

    Not a solo, but slapping on a Bull Fiddle is so fucking hard and so awesome

    Victor Wooten doing 'Classical Thump"

    And arguably the hardest Double Bass solo called "Failing"
