That looks so awesome! I love the Junior/Standard hybrid and as already said you've done a great job of creating a new shape based on the LP theme that doesn't look awkward. Got me thinking how great one of these would look done up as a Custom now!

Congrats on the early sales...you get one of these babies in a high-profile player’s hands and the stars the limit.

  • Beautiful guitar, wonderful work.  Need to get some Utoob type clips so we can all have a proper drool.
    No Darling....I've had that ages.

Thanks for the kind words @BluesyDave and yes, totally agree, there are some
Youtube vids planned, I just need to hold on to one of them long enough to get some
    done! :)

  • As others have said...Its incredibly difficult to come up with a design that is both new and classic to give it a broad appeal.  Particularly to a fickle bunch like guitarists.  Myself included  ;)

Well, it's all got rather busy round here recently!

Guitar Magazine were very gracious in reviewing The Hurricane:

    https://guitar.com/review/electric-guitar/review-ivison-guitars-the-hurricane/

And, as requested, I managed to get my pal Remi Harris to record a few demo videos for me :)

Another week, another headstock repair.... :)

This is an Edwards TV Yellow Junior that has 2 breaks in the past and another luthier had written it off as junk. But, seeing as I like a challenge I took it on:

    You can probably see why....

At the edges of that large truss rod block/washer, there's less than 1mm of wood...

First job is to glue up the remnants, while carefully plotting where that massive 'washer' is. The tape is my 'stop' line:

There was a small void where some wood had gone missing between the initial break and sending to me so I mix up a 'filler' consisting of titebond and sawdust which dries solid and helps solidify everything. There's also no depth at all for me to be able to put a backstop on this so I carefully route for the biggest splines I can get away with.

    Into the jig:

And after a rather nerve-wracking 20 minutes, I have the channels routed:

Next I find a nice, straight grained piece of Honduran mahogany for the splines and shape these by hand to fit:

They are glued up and left overnight, then the following day I par them down with a chisel and then shape with various scrapers and abrasives to give us this:

Then into the booth for filler, sealer, colour coats and clear and we've now arrived here:

I'll be sending it back to the customer this week :)

Yes, complete overkill and further weakens an already weak point, a design error for sure.

@Rustylee Hey Russel! Yes, that's yours, hope you're still enjoying it? :)

@PeteC Thanks Pete, It's a pleasure to bring these guitars back into service!

Next Hurricane off the bench and @DougCoda was right, it does work as a Goldtop too! :)

That doesn't work......IT REALLY works !    That gold finish reminds me of the east PRS Goldies ( Grissom's guitar )  So much nicer than the brassy light gold on many other big name brands ..   A Goldtop with a slightly "greenish" cast is the best colour IMHO.
    Beautiful.

I happen to play this guitar (at an undefined moment in COVID19 time) and it's incredible.

Everything you'd want an an LP style but feels more telecaster like and far less cumbersome in your hands- which is a good thing. The finish is exceptional and I love the detail hump on the bottom bout and of course, it's an unbound neck and any fule no bound necks suck.

I'm deffo gonna get one. With a bigbsy, obvs.

Haha! I do love a good pun!

    I tend to get red light fever when i'm in front of a camera so I leave it to the more confident guys but here's a video with me playing filmed by the chaps at @ATB_Guitars ;

  • Very nicely played indeed, and that is such an articulate guitar. I'll bet it sounds incredible clean as well, with a big Fendery reverb and tremolo.
