Any chance of getting search on the mobile site? You can use google but sometimes for simple things I just want convenience.

On mobile, can notifications be a separate header to profile? If I'm on a dodgy mobile data connection it's a pain to load my avatar etc. And add another click into the process.

A very minor complaint I know!

    This thread: http://thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/45346/i-can-t-do-posh#latest

won't open in safari (iOS and Yosemite), unless I have  aVPN connected. Very strange- never had the same issue before.

Error says "the server unexpectedly dropped the connection. This sometimes happens when the server is busy. Wait for a few minutes , and then try again", which is odd, cos it was saying that this morning as well..

The Good trader list used to be updated all the time to give a positive count of the number of good feedback reports, but the person doing it doesn't come here much anymore. It was fine while it was being updated, but as time goes on it is less and less accurate.
It was a pretty major task given how much traffic there is on the Classifieds.  Unfortunately (very unfortunately) Mr Jooky had a number of other life challenges to deal with, so couldn't maintain it.

We need another volunteer to take that on ...
Just wondering if this might be an opportunity to explore other feedback methods? As you say, the current system is a big job to take on for anyone and the longer it goes unmanned the less effective it becomes.

I've noticed Basschat get a few mentions whenever this topic arises, could be worth considering?

Having a link of some sort from you profile or sig to your trade feedback could work well, I've no idea how/if it could be implemented though!

I think the reliance on a volunteer to update the current thread is always going to be problematic.

You posted in the most recent JCon thread that was removed from SC.  There was speculation that he'd managed to acquire an account that we hadn't spotted, and was reading - and reacting to - the information being posted in that thread.

To prevent him doing that, or other scammers in future, that thread was placed in a hidden section of the forum that is accessible by invitation only.  People who had posted in that thread, who are known to us as not being JCon, were given automatic access to that section so that the debate could be continued.  You need a special permission, over and above being a confirmed member, to be able to access that section of the forum.  We've called that special permission "JCon".

    :)

Has something happened to the formatting? It's looking a bit screwy at the moment.

  • Feature suggestion: have a way to close a thread as a duplicate.

The same questions naturally get asked many times - this feature would allow all the responses to be funnelled into a single thread, with closed duplicates being appended with a link to the original thread.

That would make it easier for people to find answers within the site, and probably also improves the page ranking of coalesced threads by search engines like Google.

This seems to be quite effective on sites like stackoverflow.

Now waiting for somebody to tell me that this suggestion is itself a duplicate...

Bug: "@joebloggs commented on FLAG: <title>"

    The following just happened:
    1. I flagged a post
    2. I got a popup in the bottom-left of my browser saying "@joebloggs just commented on FLAG: <title>" (and also an email notification with the same message)
    3. When I click on the link (in the popup, or the email), I go to a page saying

    Permission Problem

You don't have permission to do that.

    4. I went to the thread I had flagged, and noticed that @joebloggs has just commented on it

    That seems a bit broken.

As an aside: there doesn't seem to be any feedback on flagged threads - i.e. having flagged something, I don't know whether / when a modmin has seen and acted on the flag.  Having that feature might encourage more people to raise flags - at the moment one might get the impression (mistaken, I'm sure) that doing so has no effect.

  • "Query failed: connection to localhost:9312 failed (errno=111, msg=Connection refused)." is a message I get when clicking on a discussion title from 'recent discussions'. Just appears at the top of the page. I'm using the standard android browser if it matters. Doesn't seem to interfere with owt but thought @digitalscream might want to know.

    @djspecialist

Combining threads (and/or splitting them) is a modmins function.

When you flag a post, a new thread is auto-created in a modmin section to prompt a discussion about the flagged post.  Being in a modmin section, you can't see the thread.  But the software defines you as being the starter of the thread, so you get alerts when we comment on it.

Don't know if anyone else has this issue, but when I click on links on The Fretboard (let's say it's a post with a link pointing to another post on the forum), when I click the link, the new page opens, but with "Howdy Stranger" at the top as though I'm not logged in.

I've not been logged out, so why does the forum think I have when I click Fretboard links?

This not been answered? I get logged out if I use the back button on my browser when using the main site ( not an issue on mobile) although not if I click on a link, eg Recent Discussions, instead. Not a major problem but sounds similar to @Rox

Me too, but it tends to be that some links take you to

where that happens, and others to

    where it doesn't

How do I report a Discussion on the mobile site? I know I could PM a mod and hope for the best but there doesn't seem to be a flagging system? :-?

@TTony - not just me then! If the answer is PM a mod then should, somehow, there be a list of mods?  Actually, I was only looking on here as I have this thing now on iPad if I post a photo or YouTube clip it disappears when I save the comment, I then have to go into Edit, re post and it works then. This isn't ruining my world but it's an odd quirk that didn't used to happen.

    Any ideas?

  • @bingefeller - that's because you've got all categories selected on the left. If you select followed categories, it gets hidden.

All categories is there so you can unhide stuff as well :)
