    Who knows.

They've clearly been gearing up to this for a while, they bought a new warehouse in the past year or so.

Amp block to have 4 channels which switch instantly (current is 2 via X/Y and not seamless)

And nice they're starting out with 2 sizes.

I never bought the MFC101 because it was too big yet cramped with too many rows (I'd prefer to stick to 2 because I'm clumsy and also don't need that many switches)

It is a bit of a footer TBH. The whole things looks great. I look forward to picking up a second hand one in a couple of years :)

  • Woohoo!! :-) A new toy for us Fractal folk! The I/O looks awesome. The CPU looks like a wet dream. The chassis looks shite...haha. But that is some pretty awesome news!!! :-)

Something tells me an AX8 isn't in my future anymore!

  • Looks like the UI, with Helix-esque knobs under the graphic, is a making real step up too!

The 2 does have the quick controls off to the side, but I always forget to use them.  This is a better setup for sure.

You'll probably need to sell a kidney as well!
    What do we reckon 3-4k?

Won't be much cheaper than that.

Yeah, me too. It's funny how much more intuitive it is having them below the screen (in my limited time with the Helix). Having 5 knobs instead of 4 will help too.

    Cliff has already said $2499

RRP on the Axe FX 2 XL+ was $2149 (it is on sale in the US for $1799 currently), so it is a price increase.  However the capability increase is gigantic.

$2499...? So that'll be £3000 for us then, excluding floor controller. Yikes.

Would love one, but no way can I justify that.... think I'll be sticking to my AX8!

US prices are usually without sales tax though which makes prices look worse.  It isn't Fractal's fault we have to pay 20% VAT.

  • Not immediately, I still absolutely love my 2 XL and there are other things I'm interested in in terms of instruments (I'd love a Dingwall, and also more Evertunes).

Though I would definitely like one.  I'll probably wait until next year at least to see what stuff gets added to this.

  • This is the list of how you can use the blocks.  Channels look to be the same as X/Y, except seamless now including amp blocks

0reaction image LOL 0reaction image Wow! 0reaction image Wisdom · Share on Twitter
  • Four independent delays is nice!

So currently we have two amp blocks with 2 "channels" (X/Y) each, right? So with the Axe3 there'll be 4 channels x2?

Yep.  Two blocks, each with four channels each, for a potential eight amps per patch if you were so inclined (though obviously only two at once).  Also Cliff has confirmed switching between channels will be seamless too.

Brilliant, it has 7 less parameter adjustment knobs than a £130 Zoom G3n

  • That's a massive thing isn't it, the seamless switching. I can't help but get really excited about this!

My thoughts about switching to the simpler AX8 have gone. If I was to deal with limitations, I'd be fairly happy to do that on the AX8, but now they've solved so many limitations with the Axe3, it's worth going for the Axe3 or waiting for the AX9. The Axe3 processing power looks huge.

    Really?
how is a helix $1499 in Sam ash and under a grand in the U.K. then
    Or a Kemper at $1799 vs £1399
    seems odd

Well Kemper is a European product, so there's not the same import duties on it from my understanding.  Axe FX products are shipped from the US which accounts for additional import taxes.  Line 6 I'm not sure where the product originates or how it is affected by tax as a result.

Plus the dealer network is different.

Fractal doesn't sell in shops... they have a European distributor who also need a cut at some point, whereas in the US they sell direct so no additional person to pay, that accounts for part.  Line 6 always sell through distributors and do not do direct hardware sales to the public.

Kemper does direct sales but does not undercut the dealer prices, in fact it's cheaper to buy from a dealer than direct.  £1548 for an unpowered head direct from Kemper, same thing is £1390 from typical dealers.  https://shop.kempermusic.com/gb/kemper/accessories/43/profiler-head-black?c=17
