    Here's my minimalist pedalboard:

Got a walkthrough on my Youtube channel. And also got a tour of the U2 sounds this board gets on that channel too - link to hearing the sounds and an annotated walk-through of how I got those sounds --> HERE ARE THE PEDALBOARD SOUNDS

    Chain is:
    Guitar
    > Interface in
    > Wampler Ego
    > Windu Boost
    > TC Flashback
    > Strymon Bluesky
    > Interface out
    > Amp (MJW Bantam)

Absolutely LOVE this setup, and gets me everything from U2 through to AC/DC. Will be loading more videos to show it off soon.

This is my current pedalboard that I finally completed in May this year. It looks like a pretty boring pedalboard compared to some in this thread, but is the result of a quite a few years buying and trying to find pedals that work into the top boost channel of a Vox AC30, as I do not have a normal channel on my amp that 'eats up pedals' apparently...

I did use a ProCo WF Rat pedal for a while, which was good for the higher gain sounds but lacked too much bass for me on lower gain settings and I couldn't get the Vox-loving Hotcake to work as it was either too sterile and spikey or flat out mush. The biggest/most expensive disappointment was a Bearfoot EGDM that I haven't even managed to get one decent sound out of yet, despite the gushing reviews of it on TGP, I don't know what i'm doing wrong there...

The Timmy is probably my favourite pedal out of the lot as it sounds almost exactly like my amp turned up, so I can get that glorious edgy break-up at more manageable volume levels. I wanted to buy another one for my higher gain settings but bought the Lovepedal AMP11 instead. This pedal sounds very similar to the Timmy (some say it is a clone, but let's leave it there for now...) and the boost is great for the few lead solos I play in the band. I usually have the gains set higher than is shown in the photo, this was my messing around at home settings.

The Fredric Effects Zombie Klon I use for either improving my clean sound by adding presence and sparkle when using my casino for example, or by maxing the gain and stacking it with the AMP11 to add some serious sustain for certain guitar parts. The Boss Flanger is there as i'm in a 90's Britpop covers band and there was a surprisingly high usage of this effect in this era, and I find the Hi-Band model just adds the wooshing jet sounds to the trebly parts and leaves my guitar part more intact so it is not over-powering the riff i'm playing. Lastly I have the Turbo tuner that is super fast for tuning up live and that's a TREX Fuel Tank junior velcro'd in the lip of my Pedaltrain Junior, looks like i've spent plenty of time on TGP :-)

With so many comparison web sites out there, how do I choose the best one?

  • @skay - there are 5 pedals there and only 4 sockets used on the Fuel Tank? I know this is me being completely dense in some way but please put me out of my misery...

    Well spotted @EricTheWeary i'm impressed!

The Boss Flanger pedal is an older Japanese made one, and these 80's Boss pedals will only work using the old ASA unregulated adaptors and not the newer type we use nowadays, something about the pedals using slightly more than the usual 9v that only an unregulated one can provide.

To get round this without resorting to using a battery, I have daisy-chained the Timmy and Flanger together, thus only using one socket on the Fuel Tank that you spotted. I'm not exactly sure why it works this way but somehow the Boss pedal can now suck as much power as it needs from the host pedal to work from a regulated power adaptor, clever stuff eh!

This also has an added bonus of leaving a free socket for me to take various other pedals to band practice and messing around with them or adding a Wah pedal at the front of the chain without having to juggle the whole pedalboard around.

With so many comparison web sites out there, how do I choose the best one?

as I seem to be coming obsessed with this now - is the Zoom off the same psu as everything else?

@EricTheWeary It is indeed. I'm using a Carl Martin Pro Power.

which has proper isolated ( right word?) outs. Seems a bit hit and miss mixing digital and analog without that.

  • Latest incarnation:

Got rid of the second delay (didn't like the loop in my JC amps) and the Mooer Green Mile (I never use it) and tidied up the wiring a bit. Also shortened the middle strut under the shelf to allow easier cable routing and made room for a second power supply under the shelf, because I have a feeling that I'll need it if I go for the everything-on-the-board approach I was discussing earlier in the week.

Having taken the photo, I've noticed that the gig tape binding on the board is getting a bit loose...guess that'll be a job for next week.

I used to gig basically that setup, but with a Zoom G3 instead of the MS70CDR, all powered by two One Spots with no issues (I had to power the chains in the loop and front of the amp separately to avoid ground loopage).

  • This is mine. used into a Fender Twin. the delay and chorus is in the loop. I have used the G2D for ages and its a total unsung hero - just wish it was in a smaller enclosure. Same argument for DLS, but again a brilliant pedal. I have a few really good pedals in the wings so plan on a new version soon. http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t162/catag/image_zps91d7b166.jpg

Minor thing but I wish more people would post bandlinks alongside their board, I look at it and think "hey I wonder what that sounds like".

@longi - did the footswitches go duff on the AX3000 or was the change due to personal choice?

Really sorry about the poor quality photo - but it was taken just before we started a gig. This is my current* live board

    *changes quite often

    image
    We have

    Vox 847 Wah
    Digitech Bad Monkey
    Tech 21 XXL Overdrive
    EXH Little Big Muff
Behrginer Phaser (very cheap but i think is fantastic)
Belcat Delay - great little delay pedal

The footswitch on the right is a Line 6 FBV Express used to control the Line 6 Duoverb amplifier.

I'll try and take a better picture once I've added/removed a few bits which i'm sure I will this weekend

Errrrrrr 'accidentally' bought a Line 6 M13 this afternoon - after reading all your shining reviews of the M5 I was offered this one at a great deal.

    Yeah a little bit!

If you can find me a unit that does phaser + digital delay + reverse delay + reverb, sends midi program changes, doesn't have a gap between patch changes... I'm all EARS! :D

To be honest, I still reckon you just need a bunch of rack gear - maybe a pair of TC G-Major 2s, possibly with a D-Two as well. It would solve all your problems...

A bit if both! I've changed the tact switches numerous times now, so I thought I'd change them for one proper ones that hopefully won't wear out! It's also a lot easier to change presets or punch individual effects in and out without fear of hitting another switch! It was a bit of a faff but we defiantly worth it.
