Recommendations for a cheapish small bodied cutaway acoustic

TonyRTonyR Frets: 908
I'm looking for a cheapish second hand (~£150) small bodied acoustic with cutaway and a slim neck.

I'm not looking for a mint guitar as I'll be using it to take part in acoustic nights and want something that I'm going to be too precious about.

I like the look of the Takamine EG560C, they're a few years old now and it would seem they can be had for my budget though there aren't many about.

In the early 1990s I had a Washburn EA20 (not the cheaper version that's available nowadays) and that was quite a nice guitar, but again there don't seem to be many about at the moment.

I'm aware of the Yamaha APX Series and they seem to be very popular.

Are there any others I should I be looking at?

Thanks

Tony

  • Depends how "small" you're after... I have the Yamaha APX-T and absolutely love it.

Not sure I'll get one of those within my budget of £150!

Looks like I may have found an APX500.

I had one of them, well, the earlier APX 5 - top drawer, really good plug in acoustic for live work.

Got smashed in the back of a van tho. Meh. I miss it a bit..

  • Try and find a Sigma 000MC-1STE, I have the non cutaway model without the pickup and it sounds beautiful.

I've got a Tanglewood in a "Super Folk" size. I can't remember the model number but that would fit your requirements to a tee. I got mine for £150 second hand and they come up on eBay pretty regularly.

Thanks for all the advice chaps.

As I alluded  to earlier I found a Yamaha APX500.

Well I picked it up this morning and I'm very happy with it.

Sounds lovely and is nice 'n' easy to play.

For pub sessions I use an Alvarez parlour. It doesn't have a cutaway, but, it sounds good considering its price and size. Think I picked it up for about 200, so you might be able to get one around your budget second hand?
