    A great actor who never seemed to have any pretentiousness about him.  He was in a lot of good films and a lot of really terrible ones, but it never seemed like he was cheapening himself - rather that he gave the film a touch of class, even if only for the few minutes when he was actually on screen.

    I was of an age where the concept of human rights hadn't entered my sphere of reality when I first saw The Elephant Man, changed my entire world view!

    1984, The Naked Civil Servant, I Claudius, Alien, Watership Down, etc all enriched by his presence. A great actor, without being too much of a "great" actor.
